27/02/2025, 𝓼𝓮𝓪𝓯𝓪𝓻𝓮𝓻'𝓼 𝓾𝓹𝓭𝓪𝓽𝓮 On 17 Feb 25, Inspector General Bhisham Sharma, PTM, TM, Commander, Coast Guard Region (West), inaugurated a week-long international course on ‘MRCC OPS & SAR’ for trainees from Friendly Foreign Countries (FFC). The course is conducted annually by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), Mumbai, under the Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (West), with the support of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC), MEA, GoI. The course curriculum covers Maritime Search and Rescue (M-SAR) planning and coordination, computation of datum, search plan development, satellite-aided operations, and case studies. Apart from the ICG faculty, specialists from stakeholders such as DG Shipping, INMCC, ISRO, AAI, and INCOIS will form part of the faculty during this intensive training program. Capt. Harinder Singh, DDG (Tech) represented DGS in the event. The DG Shipping Communication Centre which operates 24x7, 365 days a year, plays a pivotal role in supporting MRCC operations through real-time coordination, and facilitating seamless information exchange during SAR operations.
