FEBRUARY 13 Life Gems *GOD’S MERCY* *Spotlight* : Psalm 136 verse 26 – Oh, give thanks to the God of heaven! For His mercy endures forever. If you ask a man what he understands by the word mercy, he will likely say showing pity or pardoning someone. This is typical of man’s definition of mercy. God’s mercy is a much fuller package. It involves man’s definition of mercy but doesn’t end with it. When you hear about God’s mercy, it works in two ways for it to be complete or correct. The first part is the one of showing compassion or pity to His children. In fact, God delights in showing His children compassion. That was why He sent Moses to Egypt when the children of Israel were suffering in Egypt. He heard their cry and sent help to get them out of Egypt. So when a child of God is encountering difficulty and cry to God, he can obtain mercy. Secondly, God’s mercy works in destroying the enemy. God’s mercy is not weakness as many think, rather it is strength. As God decided to show mercy to His children, the recompense of that mercy to His own is usually a clearing and destruction for anyone or anything that made His child suffer in the first place (2 Thess 1:6). If you are reading this, steer clear oppressing anyone around you because when God’s mercy steps in , the oppressed rejoices while the oppressor gets wounded.
