March 1 Life Gems *WHAT ARE YOU DOING?* *Spotlight* : 2 Kings 10 verse 30 – And the Lord said to Jehu, “Because you have done well in doing what is right in My sight, and have done to the house of Ahab all that was in My heart, your sons shall sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth generation.” The actions of man usually brings about a response from God. Whenever man does something, God will usually respond by doing something to show He recognizes what the man did. Before a right action, most times there is a right thought that prompted the action. Do you remember Rahab who hid the spies Joshua sent to Jericho (Joshua 2:1-4; 6: 24-25)? Her fear of God made her to hide the spies sent by Joshua and that action delivered her and her household from the destruction that came on Jericho. Abraham in Genesis 22 took an action that made God swear to bless, multiply him and make him possess the gates of his enemies. That blessing that came because he didn’t withhold releasing Isaac to God is still active in his descendants. It is good to think right so that you can act right. Don’t stop at thinking and speaking right, back the two with right actions and your life will be a living testimony. Jesus spoke about the love of the Father for Him and Him being the Son of God. God was moved to give Him a name above every name after He obeyed to the end by paying the supreme price (going to the cross). You may not see some commitment from God if you only stop at just confessing correctly. If you want to see God in action, add an action in line with what you believe and confess. FEBRUARY 28 Life Gems *WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?* *Spotlight* : Proverbs 18 verse 21 – Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit. As a human being, your words are important and much more if you are a child of God. Unfortunately, many even believers talk carelessly. Do you know that both positive and negative spiritual forces are on the watch out for what you say? (Ecclesiastes 5:6, Psalm 39:1). No matter how tough the situation is, force your mouth to say what the word of God says concerning you even when you don’t know how God will do it. Over and over in our lives, by saying what God says, the tough real situation we saw disappeared. It takes faith and trust in God to just say what the word of God says. Men may tell you that you are not coming to terms with reality but the only reality God recognises is what His word says because His word is forever settled in heaven (Psalm 119:89). Even when you speak correctly what the word of God says, ensure you believe those words so that you can see the kind of results you desire. If there is a misalignment of fear, doubt, unbelief in your heart, your confession may achieve very little. Let your confession force out any remaining iota of doubt, fear, unbelief from your heart. Don’t join men to say negative or faithless words and feel you were just joking. Well the devil is not a joker. He is always looking for an opportunity to strike. Don’t give him that opportunity by talking carelessly. In fact it is better to keep quiet than to speak wrong words just to keep a conversation going. FEBRUARY 8 Life Gems *REMAIN ACTIVE IN FAITH 2* *Spotlight* : Hebrews 11 verse 5 – By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “and was not found, because God had taken him”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God. In addition to obtaining testimonies on earth you need the great testimony of making heaven. That testimony can be released to you by continuously walking in faith in God. You need faith to make heaven. In fact, faith is not optional in life. As long as you want to spend your eternity with God, you must ensure to keep your faith intact. Let nothing make you cast away your faith in God (Hebrews 10:35). God responds to faith and if a believer removes faith, he can’t have any place with God, not even in eternity. So when you hear of the subject of faith, pay close attention and work on it because without it, your eternity is at stake. Hebrews 11:6 says without it, you can’t please God. If a man can’t please God, he equally doesn’t have a place with God in eternity. If anything not done of faith is sin (Romans 14:23) if you decide to ignore faith, it means your deeds before God are sinful and you can’t have a place with Him in eternity. Decide today to take your faith in God seriously. When you read the scriptures, please for your good, believe! God was angry with the Israelites and allowed them to perish in the wilderness because of unbelief (Hebrews 3:17 -19). To man it may look like ‘just ordinary unbelief’ but to God, it can cost a man his eternity. Stop doubting God and His word. Instead of wasting your energy to doubt, use same energy to believe God so that your eternity with Him can be guaranteed. *Word Feast* : Hebrews 4 verses 1 – 11; 3 verses 7 – 19; Romans 4 verse 3. *Prayer* : Father, I choose to believe You and Your word. FEBRUARY 4 Life Gems *GO UP* *Spotlight* : Exodus 24 verse 12 – Then the Lord said to Moses, “Come up to Me on the mountain and be there; and I will give you tablets of stone, and the law and commandments which I have written, that you may teach them.” It is naturally more convenient to settle with seemingly less stress but the guaranteed way to peace is not settling for less but going up when you are given the opportunity to. Even though there is stress in going up, whenever you are given opportunity, go up. When you go up, that is when you are powerful and it is only when you are powerful that you can have your peace. You have lesser though powerful opposition while up but being up equips you with what you need to fight. You have better power to protect what you are in charge of when you are up than when you are down. Pay the price of diligence early to go up (develop yourself) both spiritually and mentally. The freedom of one who is down is in another person’s hand. The one who is up holds the freedom of everyone down and can tamper with it. That is why you must not settle for the less in life. As a teenager, make up your mind to develop your mind and spirit. As a young adult, you may do menial jobs as you start out in life but never settle for it as the level where you want to remain. Plan the little resources and develop yourself if you need to and prayerfully invest your resources. [2/9, 12:15 AM] Life Gems: FEBRUARY 9 Life Gems ALLOCATE TIME TO GOD DAILY Spotlight: Psalm 63 verse 1 – O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water. Time is a basic provision of God to everyone. It is universally equal irrespective of your gender, race, status, etc. Time in itself is a treasure. You can’t really create it but you can allocate it. It’s a treasure that once it is gone, it is gone forever. You can decide to allocate another time for a task you failed to do but can’t retrieve any lost time. The way you use your time can reflect your honour for God. It will be very clear whether you hold God in high regard or not when your daily time allocation to things is checked. Allocating time to God is an ordinance that shouldn’t change despite changing times and seasons. Get it right in your time allocation to God. The flesh will naturally want your time and if you give it time, it has an easy or subtle way of consuming time. That is why many will grumble that a prayer session was too long but won’t grumble when a movie takes 2 hours. Do you know that whatever you give time to, you will see or get quality outcome or result from it? Be mindful to allocate time to God and you will get a quality fellowship with God. Have an honour for God in your time. Don’t accept that internal or external complaint that the time you are spending with God is too much. The fact is that if you don’t spend time with God, you will still spend it with something else. Now the unfortunate thing is that if you encounter the challenges of life, those things you are spending time with will never be able to bail you out. From today, compel and subject yourself to things that make you pay attention to the word of God. Money for instance is a product of time but God wants your time many times more than your money. FEBRUARY 7 Life Gems *REMAIN ACTIVE IN FAITH* *Spotlight* : Habakkuk 2 verse 4 – “Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith. Faith in God is not what you express once in a lifetime or once in a while when in the real sense God designed it to be a perpetual lifestyle of every believer. You are a believer who should actively and continuously believe irrespective of changing world situations. Faith is manifested or shown in obeying every law and instructions of God whether it makes sense or not and whether it is convenient or not. Faith comes by hearing (Romans 10 verse 17) not seeing. That means if you wait for what you see to align before you believe, you will miss out in faith. When God speaks, you believe because that is what God’s word has instructed not because it is convenient or something in the environment is aligning. As a matter of fact, things in the environment can be speaking directly opposite of what God’s word is saying. We have experienced that many times but trying to hold on to what God said delivered desired results. Don’t operate in faith at the early years of your walk with God and slide to different theories as you advance in age. To those who are active in their faith in God, there is always an increase to the things of faith happening in their lives. They keep obtaining testimonies delivered to them by faith. Truly, a man is a decider to how he wants to walk in faith. FEBRUARY 3 Life Gems *DON’T SUCCUMB TO TEMPTATION* *Spotlight* : Proverbs 1 verse 10 – My son, if sinners entice you, Do not consent. The devil will always sponsor temptation, he doesn’t get tired doing so. If he tempted Jesus, then he can tempt any believer. You must take your place and stand against temptation. Don’t succumb to temptation because if you do, you have given the devil a chance to use you to boast as part of the people he dealt with. You wouldn’t like the devil to make such a boast over your life or would you? Refuse to be added into the boast list of the devil your enemy. He presents his boast list to many believers if he wants to deceive a believer. He will tell the believer things like ‘everybody is doing it. Don’t you see brother A or sister A? Nobody is doing the right thing.’ All these and more will the devil present to you. Evil men who are agents of the devil also use this boast list when they want to intimidate a believer and make him accept their terms. They remind him how they dealt with so and so. Such boast usually weaken those who would have stood their ground. No matter how tempting a temptation is, make up your mind never to yield. FEBRUARY 5 Life Gems *GIVE YOURSELF TO GOD* *Spotlight* : 2 Corinthians 8 verse 5 – And not only as we had hoped, but they first gave themselves to the Lord, and then to us by the will of God. From the time of Adam, God has desired man to give Him nothing else but himself. God came to Eden at the cool of the day not necessary to ask Adam to give Him some fruits of the garden but He wanted to just interact and spend time with Adam. Don’t run helter skelter looking for what to present to God to make Him happy. What He wants you to present to Him is yourself. Just give yourself to God. Bring yourself to God as a student, civil servant, pastor etc. God wants you to come to Him and interact with Him. There are many who argue about what to give or not to give to God. The problem is actually one giving himself to God. Once a believer can give himself to God, whatever he has will follow. A believer who has fully given himself to God will release any other thing he has without struggle. When you give yourself to God, you will not withhold your money from God no matter what the economic situation is. The Macedonian church gave even beyond their ability because they had given themselves to God(2 Corinthians 8:1-5). Don’t encourage people to give money to God, rather teach them to give themselves to God. Let them come to a point of surrendering themselves, their will, plans to God and coming to God willingly out of love to relate and interact with Him. FEBRUARY 1 Life Gems *LOVE TRULY* *Spotlight* : 1 John 3 verse 18 – My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. Love can be expressed in actions. Love is actually practical not theory. The best way to tell God ‘I love You’ is to obey Him. The best way to tell man ‘I love you’ is to make his or her life better with no strings attached. There is a question mark over someone’s claim of love when it is not backed by a corresponding action either towards God or man. Even without telling God ‘I love You’, God can see that love when you give yourself to actively doing what He says you should do. Don’t try to be manipulative in your walk with God i.e disobey God’s instruction and render services or money to God’s work and tell God you love Him so much so He should look at the things you have done and cover up your disobedience. Obeying God’s command is the best way to let God know you truly love Him. What of man? Truly love man by making his or her life better. If you need to share what you have, go ahead. Having a physical possession you know you can give some to another and not get stranded and refusing to give puts a question mark on your love. Don’t close your heart of compassion to people. You may not be able to give them all they need but the little or much you can give to them, give to them. As you share material or physical possession with people, don’t hesitate to share God’s word with them because that is what can give them a future. JANUARY 31 Life Gems *THE WORLD WILL HATE YOU* *Spotlight* : 1 John 3 verse 13 – Do not marvel, my brethren, if the world hates you. Many believers feel bad when the world system through its human representative just hate them for no reason. As a believer, you need to understand that if you are upright, you will be hated even without offending someone. In fact, the world hating you as a child of God dates back to Cain hating and killing Abel not because Abel offended him. Righteous Abel’s sacrifice was accepted while Cain’s own didn’t receive acceptance and of course his later action showed that he was evil. You standing upright is already an offense to those practicing evil so don’t be surprised when you are hated without a cause (reason). Those living in sin want everyone to live in sin as well. So when you stand upright and refuse to join them live a life of cheating, bribery, fraud, immorality, disobedience etc, they hate you passionately. Never let their hatred move you to succumb and accept to live in sin. Rather maintain your stand and don’t stress yourself trying to explain to them so that they can stop hating you. When you realize people hating you for standing upright, just intensify your connection with God so that God’s presence will be with you at all times to handle all your life’s battle. Don’t bother knowing who hate you and what anyone said about you.
