Earache? Think Pharmacy First.
Children and young people aged 1 to 17 can get treatment for earache at most local pharmacies, without needing to see a GP.
Earache and ear pain is common, particularly in young children. It can affect one or both ears.
Most earaches in children are caused by an ear infection, which usually start to improve after a few days.
Signs that your child has earache may mean they:
➡️ rub or pull their ear
➡️ are irritable or restless
➡️ are off their food
You’ll be seen in a private consultation room at your pharmacy. The pharmacist can prescribe NHS medicines, if appropriate, or refer you to a GP or other health professional.
This is one of seven common conditions that can be treated by your pharmacist through the Pharmacy First scheme.
