Tetracycline! Tetracycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that has been used for hundreds of years. It belongs to the tetracycline class of antibiotics. It is used to treat various bacterial infections, including: 1. Respiratory tract infections: such as pneumonia, bronchitis, and sinusitis. 2. Skin and soft tissue infections: such as acne, cellulitis, and abscesses. 3. Urinary tract infections: such as cystitis and pyelonephritis. 4. Gastrointestinal infections: such as diarrhea and dysentery. 5. Sexually transmitted infections: such as chlamydia and gonorrhea. Proposed MOA of Tetracycline include: 1. Inhibiting protein synthesis: Tetracycline binds to the bacterial ribosome, preventing the production of essential proteins. 2. Interfering with cell wall formation: Tetracycline also inhibits the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, ultimately leading to the death of the bacterial cell.
