Many people are asking me about what happens to those with taxable incomes just over Rs 12 lakh.
In these cases, the taxpayer receives marginal relief to ensure that individuals earning slightly over Rs 12 lakh do not end up with post-tax incomes lower than those earning exactly Rs 12 lakh.
For example, consider an individual with a taxable income of Rs 12.15 lakh. Without marginal relief, their tax liability would be Rs 63,000, calculated according to the tax slabs. However, with marginal relief, this taxpayer's tax obligation is reduced to just Rs 15,000.
I hope this clarifies that a person earning a little more than Rs 12 lakh does not pay the full Rs 63,000 in taxes and instead benefits from marginal relief.
