Yesterday, like an earthquake, a State High Court ruling on the issue of Igbajo Obaship tussle shook Osun state to its foundations. The court sitting at Ile Ife ruled that the Executive Order and Government White Paper which Governor Ademola Adeleke relied upon to dethrone Oba Gboyega Famodun from the seat of his forefathers was faulty as such be set aside. The court, among others, insisted Famodun was qualified and duly installed as the king of the ancient town. The woman judge did a complete judicial anatomy of the case and in a way that has opened the floodgates of opportunity for other Obas who were equally victimized and terrorized by the Governor’s arbitrary use of Executive Order to dethrone them to contest their own dethronement too .
That the entire state erupted in full joy and ceremony after the verdict of yesterday was a great testament to the fact that the dethroning of Oba Famodun by the governor was not a popular one. It can only mean that the people of Osun kept bottled up in them their detestation of the state government action in this regard. Famodun’s Igbona residence at Osogbo became a Mecca of sorts yesterday as people started trooping in their numbers from the different parts of the state to rejoice with him. Yours truly was also physically present to witness this event. The victorious Kabiyesi had the thronging crowd and his very busy mobile phones to attend to throughout the day and deep into the night. Some of the calls, one got to know, were from his fellow Kabiyesi because of the way he responded anytime he picked their calls saying “Kabiyesi o”. Some were international calls while others were local calls but from the high and the low.
After a particular call he received and from what I heard the Kabiyesi saying from this end to the caller i inquired about his predicament in the hands of the state government on this issue.
“Kabiyesi, please tell me the truth on your relationship with the Adeleke family”. His response moved me close to tears when he responded with “ We are more or less same family because i lived with them in their house abroad even grew our children together in a way that it took the children their aging to get to understand who really was their individual biological parents “
Let me stop at that for now. Although, i still probe further on why, if that be, would the governor be this vindictive against him. The answer he gave is another can of worms that is not yet ripe for opening.
Finally, the obviously happy Kabiyesi said he thanked God for the Osun judiciary which held on firmly to its oath of allegiance to the country and the good people of Osun state.
Akoni Oodua Ayeniromo….this event reminds me of a Yoruba saying ; Ara ile eni ni seni.
