*Aligning with the Statement; “You cannot support Adeleke and still remain sensible”*
_Osun NLC leadership partisanship position on my mind_
_25/02/2025_
Prior to this time, when social media commenters, particularly those on the side of the opposition, would say to those supporting Governor Adeleke during arguments that "you cannot support Ademola Adeleke and still have your thinking faculty functional," I thought they were being overly harsh. However, considering the recent developments in Osun under the governor's leadership, I am beginning to align with this sentiment.
I will provide a single illustration to justify my alignment with the statement, and I will leave it to your discretion to judge. Recall how the Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) leadership, a labor union that is increasingly becoming an arm of the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), announced the withdrawal of its services, with an emphasis on Local Government workers. The congress cited perceived insecurity and safety concerns for its workers as the reason. In a press release, the union stated that "safety at work is of high priority, and we cannot allow our members to work in an atmosphere of insecurity."
Expectedly, the police and other security agencies responded rapidly by bolstering security arrangements statewide to allay fears. As a result, local government infrastructure and facilities were subjected to round-the-clock surveillance. Their efforts were successful, yielding no reported incidents of public safety or security breaches throughout the state so far. But with all of that the NLC who quoted fears of insecurity and safety are yet to go back to work.
Notwithstanding the foregoing, the NLC, which initially expressed concerns about insecurity and safety, has yet to direct its members to return to work. Rather, the NLC, operating under the guise of an NGO, has been exerting pressure on the police to withdraw their specialized services from the state, asserting that the state is peaceful. While it is true that the state is peaceful, it is crucial to acknowledge who is responsible for maintaining this peace. The police, undoubtedly, play a significant role in this regard and the good people of Osun appreciate them for it.
Upon recognizing their unpopularity, the NLC resorted to making unsubstantiated allegations of misconduct against police personnel using a faceless NGO. Fortunately, the citizens demonstrated collective wisdom in supporting the police's continued efforts to maintain peace in the state. The NLC Osun chapter's actions are consistent with the notion that "one cannot support Governor Adeleke and remain sensible". Thus, as NLC leadership, calling off workers due to insecurity and subsequently refusing to return to work citing "over security" raises concerns.
They have until the end of this week to comply with the necessary labor laws or risk the consequences.
Furthermore, the governor is expected to adopt a more prudent approach, acknowledging that his strategy of encouraging workers to stay at home is detrimental to the state's economy. Has he contemplated the consequences of decreased IGR and compromised essential services?
The citizens of Osun, especially those who supported Ademola Adeleke's candidacy, must be worried about the state's current situation at the hands of Adeleke. They probably must be disappointed. After all, they never voted him to become this senselessly combative, arrogant and incompetent leader that he has become fighting against all institutions like the judiciary and the justice systems, police, and other arms of security, traditional institutions and many others.
