RESTORE ZAMBIA'S NATIONAL SYMBOLS ON CURRENCY
Good evening
One of the issues which have raised anxieties about introduction of Zambia's new currency notes and coins is the abrupt, almost secretive manner this has been sprung on the nation.
There was a clamour that kwacha notes, which are in dilapidated state, needed to be replaced. No Zambian has in the last four years publicly voiced a desire to have change of currency.
Therefore, clearly the government of Outgoing Dictator Hakainde Hichilema, on its own, and without serious justification, decided to change the currency.
As government, they are entitled to. However, the country and states currency do not belong to them. Country in this context means people, resources, state institutions, national monuments and political symbols accepted and corporately owned by Zambians.
Our interest in this article centres on the National symbols which successive governments of Zambia have accepted, adopted, and passed down as a "sacred" heritage fostering national identity and unity.
Key among these are the freedom Statue, the Coat of Arms and the eagle perched on a branch, which have previously found place in the designs of Zambia's currencies. These symbols should not be trifled with anyhow by anyone, no, matter how overblown their sense of electoral mandate.
There must be very compelling reasons why these national symbols, which we have known since independence, need to be removed from Zambia's new currency notes and coins. So far the United Party for National Development (UPND) government of Outgoing Dictator Hichilema has provided no such compelling reasons. Justifications expressed so far are simply hogwash.
What is worse is that these well known national symbols have been replaced by ambiguous symbology which some have interpreted as subtle infusions of freemasonry on the face of Zambian currency.
At a time when the country has descended into serious divisions on tribal and political lines, it is strange that the government would choose to remove the country's well known symbols of unity from the Zambian currency. What is going on here? These national symbols represent our country's culture, values, and history, and have been used over the years to unite people and promote patriotism.
While symbols in Freemasonry allow Masons to communicate quickly and transcend language barriers.
National symbols are intended to be inclusive of all people in the country. Hence change to these symbols must be done in an inclusive and transparent manner.
Whereas in freemasonry, symbols are intended for the few individual members to communicate their secret society messages to promote their fraternities and aims for control and domination of societies.
Zambia has strong Christian influences, even before being officially declared as a Christian nation. That is why the symbolism in our national flag our national anthem, court of arms all bear some of these influences.
But why now this sudden change in symbolism on the currency? Is this a follow up on the symbolism of such gestures of the ruling elite as wearing of white gloves?
In Freemasonry, white gloves symbolize purity and equality, and are a reminder to act with good intentions
White gloves signify the desire to have actions that are as pure as the gloves. White gloves are also meant to promote equality because they are worn by all men in a fraternity, regardless of social status.
The Zambian public must come out and demand from this government a clear explanation why these vital national symbols of unity, dignity and yearning for freedom, have been removed, and replaced on the new currency notes by confusing symbols, some of which are associated with secret societies.
