"IMITA UFOLE" REMARKS SHAMEFUL: By Rev Chilekwa Mulenga Sun 23rd February, 2025 Luke 17:1-2 Jesus told his disciples, “It is inevitable that temptations to sin will come, but how terrible it will be for the person through whom they come! It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin" We find the "IMITA UFOLE" (translated as; fall pregnant to get paid) remarks reported in The Mast paper dated Saturday 22nd February 2025 attributed to Her Honour the Republican Vice President Madam W.K Mutale Nalumango as unfortunate and therefore frown upon it with deep contempt. Her remarks are misleading and dishonourable. Zambia is a Christian Nation with a rich cultural heritage. Given the high poverty levels faced in the Country, her remarks has the potential to encourage further moral decay and push women and young girls into unwanted pregnancies for money. Zambia remains one of the Countries with a significantly high prevalence of teenage pregnancy in Sub-Saharan Countries with a stagnant rate that declined slightly from 31.6% in 1992 to 29.2% in 2018. Her remarks can actually escalate teenage pregnancies, STIs & HIV cases in the Country for especially the poor girls facing economic hardships and coming from poor homes. We therefore respectfully counsel the Vice President to clarify her careless remarks and project the right message that would inspire the girl child to abstain from sex outside marriage, avoid teenage pregnancy and sexual diseases. The Vice President should never be seen as the one driving woman and young girls into sex for food. It is a shame to hear of such coming from a woman and mother we respect. We encourage her to reflect on her misleading remarks. She's meant to be God's maidservant called into politics to be the light and salt. We urge her by the mercies of the Lord to reflect the face of Christ on the political arena. The Vice President Madam W.K Mutale Nalumango must never give us an impression that she's become an Ichabod and backslidden past an infidel.
