Top soldier installed headman Tsamwayi DUMISANI CHAUKE 
MIRROR REPORTER BUHERA – Lieutenant Colonel Honest Mangezi who is the Battalion Commander at 3.2 Infantry Battalion was last Friday installed as the fourth Headman Tsamwayi. The ceremony was held at Mukuri Business Centre, Buhera.
Headman Tsamwayi has 27 villages under him and falls under Chief Nyashanu.
Makoni District Development Coordinator (DDC) Edgar Mashindi presided over the installation ceremony. Mashindi was representing Minister of Local Government and Public Works Daniel Garwe.
The Headmanship rotates between Zvenyika and Mangezi houses and it began in 1922. The Ministry of Local Government recognised it on December 11, 2024, making Mangezi the first recognised headman Tsamwayi.
The headmanship had been vacant since 2002 when Muchayana Zvenyika who was the incumbent since 1982 died. Munyengedzwa Zvenyika served as the first headman Tsamwayi from 1922 until his death in 1944. He was succeeded by Mufambi Tsamwayi in 1945 and he served until 1981 when he was succeeded by Muchayana Zvenyika. There was no headman since 2002.
Mashindi urged traditional leaders who gathered at the installation ceremony to protect their lands by ensuring that all allocations conform to the Communal Lands Act.
“Land allocation must be done legally by the local authority in consultation with the traditional leaders.
