Amanda Mushate explores maternal bonds through art GARIKAI MAFIRAKUREVA HARARE – The National Gallery of Zimbabwe is proud to present “Ingoma KaMama Wami”, the debut solo exhibition by rising artist Amanda Mushate. Officially opening to the public on June 13, 2025 and running until 18 August 2025, the exhibition marks a significant milestone in Mushate’s career as she transitions from emerging talent to an artist of growing maturity. Her latest body of work features a compelling mix of paintings and synthetic sculptures, with a central focus on maternal and filial relationships.
Mushate’s artistic expression is deeply rooted in the emotional and psychological nuances of family bonds, particularly between mothers and daughters. Her work seeks to challenge the societal norms that often demand emotional restraint and conformity. In doing so, she brings to light the silent traumas and pressures many individuals endure in their attempt to meet these expectations. The exhibition, therefore, becomes not just a visual experience, but a therapeutic journey—inviting audiences to reflect on the emotional weight carried across generations.
By addressing generational curses and the societal repression of emotional expression, Mushate’s art offers a form of redress—akin to spiritual or emotional healing. Her use of emotive compositions and symbolism calls attention to the cultural concept of “ngozi”, where unresolved ancestral wrongs necessitate reconciliation. In this light, Mushate assumes a mediatory role, both within her work and in her own life as a mother, offering her creations as gestures of corrective intent.……Full story on www.masvingomirror.com Follow The Mirror channel on WhatsApp: https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VaDkczW42DcZ1gleaW2j https://masvingomirror.com/amanda-mushate-explores-maternal-bonds-through-art/ Look out for your copy of The Mirror..... https://anyflip.com/pckiw/xtdj/

Youth Charter joins UNICEF in celebrating International Day of Play GARIKAI MAFIRAKUREVA LONDON – The Youth Charter has joined hands with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in celebrating the International Day of Play under the global theme “Choose Play – Every Day.” This important occasion highlights the critical role of play as a universal right for children and young people, and a vital catalyst for global change. In solidarity with young people worldwide, the Youth Charter is reaffirming its commitment to ensuring play is recognised, protected, and prioritised in the daily lives of children.
This year’s theme serves as a powerful reminder to governments, corporations, educators, families, and communities to take collective action in supporting the physical, mental, emotional, and social development of youth through play. Far from being a luxury, play is essential in nurturing creativity, resilience, and inclusion, particularly during times of hardship and adversity.
The Youth Charter continues to lead with its Global Call to Action, first launched at the UN Summit of the Future, advocating for sport, art, culture, and digital innovation as key instruments of development and peace in the lives of children and young people. These pillars are central to the organisation’s global programmes and initiatives.……Full story on www.masvingomirror.com Follow The Mirror channel on WhatsApp: https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VaDkczW42DcZ1gleaW2j https://masvingomirror.com/youth-charter-joins-unicef-in-celebrating-international-day-of-play/ Look out for your copy of The Mirror..... https://anyflip.com/pckiw/xtdj/

It's difficult to doubt this when you look at the lawlessness and modus operandi of the Third Republic... Party members don't pay road licences, they don't pay tollgate fees, they don't display vehicle number plates, they don't get arrested for crimes, they don't pay duty even for private helicopters that they buy. Now it's diplomatic passports for girlfriends! https://x.com/TheMirrorMsv/status/1934876015739715713

African Mining Week to highlight coal’s role in regional energy GARIKAI MAFIRAKUREVA CAPE TOWN – As Africa leverages coal to drive industrialization and support sustainable development, African Mining Week (AMW) – the continent’s premier platform for mining stakeholders – will highlight investment opportunities within the coal sector. Scheduled for October 1–3, 2025 in Cape Town, the event will unite project developers, investors, policymakers and technology providers to advance coal-focused deals and partnerships.
A dedicated panel discussion, “Coal’s Indispensable Role: Powering Africa’s Downstream Processing and Manufacturing Boom,” will explore how coal contributes to energy security, economic growth and job creation across the continent. Coal remains a critical driver of energy security in Africa. The continent is expected to increase coal use by 6 million tons to 191 million tons per annum by 2027 under efforts to enhance the resilience of the electricity network, according to the International Energy Agency. In South Africa – Africa’s largest producer and the world’s sixth – the coal sector has been crucial in addressing load shedding, with a 7% increase in coal use in 2023 and 2024 strengthening the grid. On the global stage, African coal also plays an important role, accounting for over 3.5% of the world’s total production, with producers such as Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana kickstarting new projects and optimizing existing assets. South Africa exports 28% of its coal production and ranks as the world’s fourth largest coal exporting market..……Full story on www.masvingomirror.com Follow The Mirror channel on WhatsApp: https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VaDkczW42DcZ1gleaW2j https://masvingomirror.com/african-mining-week-to-highlight-coals-role-in-regional-energy/ Look out for your copy of The Mirror..... https://anyflip.com/pckiw/zbji
