Kwekwe silos 85% complete PRISCA MANYIWA-MASUKU MIRROR REPORTER KWEKWE – The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) is constructing seven new silos in Kwekwe to reduce post-harvest losses and transport costs for farmers who have been transporting their grain to Mashonaland West.
Provincial Mechanisation Engineer in the Ministry of Agriculture, Engineer Andrew Mupariwa said the project is 85% complete with four silos already completed. He said each silo has a capacity of 8000 metric tonnes.
Mupariwa added that most farmers were being charged US$600 to transport 30 metric tonnes of grain to silos in Mashonaland West.
He was speaking during a tour of the silos led by Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Jenfan Muswere last Thursday.
“The whole project is at 85% completion. Out of seven silos, four are complete and two are already half way and work on the final silo has begun. We hope that by end of April-May all the silos will be complete and we will be doing the final touches. Each Silo has a capacity of 8000 metric tonnes.
“We hope that this season we will be able to collect grain from farmers.
