*SHAPING LIVES THROUGH EDUCATION: LASU INDUCTS NEW MEMBERS INTO THE EARLY CHILDHOOD ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (LASUECAN)*
The third induction ceremony for the 2023/2024 set of the Early Childhood Association of Nigeria (LASUECAN) took place on Thursday, 27th February 2025, at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, Lagos State University, Ojo. The event featured a powerful address from the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni NPOM, emphasising the profound responsibility of educators in shaping young lives.
In her message, delivered by the Dean, Faculty of Arts, Professor Ayodele Ayotunde, Professor Olatunji-Bello stated, "You are not simply teaching subjects or skills; you are shaping lives. You are instilling values, creating memories, and providing children with the tools they need to navigate the world." She acknowledged the challenges faced in early childhood education and urged the inductees to remain flexible and open to new ideas, strategies, and research as the field continues to evolve.
The Vice-Chancellor highlighted that as members of LASUECAN, the inductees are equipped with the necessary resources, knowledge, and support to grow as professionals. The association will serve as a vital guide, helping them navigate the complexities of their roles and reminding them of the endless possibilities that exist in early childhood development.
The National President of the Early Childhood Association of Nigeria (ECAN),Professor Babajide Gboyega Abidogun, congratulated the graduating class, recognising their achievement in joining the ranks of esteemed professionals in Early Childhood Education. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the LASU University Management and the Faculty of Education for their commitment to producing high-quality educators.
In his address, Professor Abidogun emphasised the critical role the newly inducted members play in shaping the future of the nation, stating, "You are the foundation upon which the future of our children is built." He charged them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and integrity, and to remain passionate about their work.
The founder of the Early Childhood Association, Professor Ajike Osanyin, also congratulated the inductees, affirming her confidence in their ability to rise to the occasion and contribute to the advancement of early childhood education in Nigeria.
The Dean, Faculty of Education, Professor Gbenga Akindoju, represented by Professor Latifat Oludare Yahya, along with the Head of the Department of Educational Foundations and Counselling Psychology (EFC), Professor Ife Abodunrin, addressed the inductees, offering encouragement and support for their new journey.
The ceremony was well attended by notable dignitaries, including Professor Dare Olufowobi from Educational Foundations & Counselling Psychology, Dr Friday Azana from the EFC Special Education Unit, Mrs Ogundiran Mopelola, Mrs Tomi Fakoya.
The event culminated in the presentation of certificates to the new members, followed by a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Mrs Abiade Ibukunoluwa, encapsulating the spirit of optimism and commitment to the future of early childhood education in Nigeria.
