_*ZANU PF Signs Papers To Expel Geza And Gomwe*_
ZANU PF has signed the final papers to expel firebrand war veteran Blessed Geza and Gifford Gomwe from the party.
The decision was approved late Wednesday.
Gomwe and Geza face expulsion as the 2030 cabal from Mash West province recommended their dismissal to the ZANU PF National Disciplinary Committee.
The committee will then forward the papers to the politburo for endorsements. Soon after this, the decision will be escalated for announcement by party spokesman Christopher Mutsvangwa. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. Gomwe is the younger brother of Godwin recently pictured with Cde Geza.
The two are accused of denouncing the president and the devious 2030 presidency agenda.
The decision is set to cause commotion of apocalyptic levels
_*Cde Bombshell Geza now under attack, controversial audio emerges, to ‘lose’ US$1.3 mil if he doesn’t appear in court, police summon his wife*_
A militant war veterans leader, Blessed “Bombshell” Geza, who recently launched a scathing attack on President Emmerson Mnangagwa, demanding his resignation and vowing to thwart his alleged plans to extend his rule beyond 2028, has become the target of a concerted campaign to discredit him. The escalating tensions come amidst reports of an audio recording implicating Geza.
Geza has been a vocal critic of President Mnangagwa, repeatedly calling for his resignation and accusing him of failing the country. His outspoken stance has drawn significant attention to his activities and whereabouts, making him a target for those loyal to the President.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is reportedly pursuing four criminal charges against Geza, including undermining the authority of or insulting the President. Adding fuel to the fire, allies of President Mnangagwa, including Justice minister Ziyambi Ziyambi, are reportedly referencing an alleged murder case against him.
Adding to the pressure, the State has put Basil Nyabadza, former Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (Arda) board chairman, on notice that his remand will be removed if Geza does not appear in court on February 25 in a case where Nyabadza is accused of defrauding Geza of US$1 362 000 in a land deal.
According to prosecutor Anesu Chirenje, Geza bought a piece of land measuring 42,3504 hectares from Nyabadza for US$1 362 000 on October 29, 2020. Chirenje said Geza was granted sole authority to subdivide, develop, and sell the land. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news productio
When the agreement of sale was done, Nyabadza allegedly misrepresented to Geza that the piece of land had title deeds which he would avail in a month. However, he failed to deliver.
Chirenje told the court that while Geza was in the process of obtaining subdivision permits for the land from the Department of Physical Planning in Mashonaland West Province, he discovered that Nyabadza had sold the same land to Velda Estates.
The court heard that Geza engaged Nyabadza hoping for an amicable solution, only to discover that his agreement of sale had been cancelled without his knowledge. Geza was allegedly prejudiced of US$1 362 000 and nothing was recovered.
Adding to the intrigue, ZimEye reports that Police’s CID Law And Order have summoned war veterans firebrand Blessed Geza’s wife to their Harare Central Police Station. “We’ve sent our boys to Law And Order right now. If they harass Geza’s wife, it will be war,” Cde Mabhunu tells ZimEye.
Meanwhile, top military sources have dismissed allegations that Geza is being sheltered at Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks, formerly known as KG6, in Harare. The sources categorically denied any army involvement with Geza, calling the claims “entirely false.” The denial comes amid widespread online reports suggesting that Geza, a vocal critic of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, is under military protection.
The ZRP has also been actively searching for Geza, who faces multiple criminal charges, including theft and undermining the authority of the President. In a recent statement, the ZRP urged the public to provide information on Geza’s location, warning that anyone harboring or assisting him would face arrest and prosecution. Despite the police’s efforts, Geza’s current whereabouts remain unknown. Some have reported that he fled the country while others alleged that he is being housed at Josiah Magama Tongogara barracks, formerly known as KG6 Barracks.
The situation is further complicated by the emergence of what appears to be “gray propaganda” targeting Geza. Gray propaganda is a type of propaganda that does not clearly identify its source or intention, leaving things unclear.
It is a common and prevalent form of propaganda that is used to promote a hidden sponsor’s agenda. The purveyor and source of information are never directly credited, the sponsor’s identity is specifically concealed, and the information given could be true or false, but the aim is to damage the target’s reputation.
The agenda is primarily to discredit the target and promote the sponsor’s agenda in a way that is more palatable and plausible to the target audience for impact. A controversial audio has emerged where an unidentified man is spitting vicious words against Geza whom he is accusing of lying that he was sent by Vice President Chiwenga to do what he did and that he (Geza) used them for free without paying them their dues.
_*Mnangagwa Not Going, Says Togarepi*_
Zanu PF Chief Whip, Pupurai Togarepi, has firmly declared that President Emmerson Mnangagwa will remain in office beyond 2028, despite speculation surrounding his political future.
In an interview with Studio 7 on Tuesday, Togarepi addressed questions about Mnangagwa’s leadership, stating that the president’s tenure is secure and that the people of Zimbabwe, particularly Zanu PF members, support his continued rule.
Togarepi responded directly, “Aiwa ndofunga imi vatori venhau makabvunza munhu asiri iye. Tiri kutora nyaya kumunhu asiri muridzi wenyaya. Muridzi wenyaya imember dzeZanu PF neruzhinji kunze uko vari kuti President taona zvamaita toda kuti murambe muchititungamira.”
In English, Togarepi explained, “No, I think you journalists are asking the wrong person. You are taking the issue to someone who is not the rightful owner of the matter. The rightful owners of this issue are Zanu PF members and the people outside who want the President to continue leading us.” This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production
Togarepi’s comments underline the Zanu PF party’s support for Mnangagwa and suggest that any talk of his departure is not only premature but also disconnected from the wishes of the party and its supporters. This statement comes amidst ongoing political discussions and the general perception of Mnangagwa’s leadership beyond the upcoming 2028 elections.
_*Can we trust Mnangagwa’s self-proclaimed constitutionalism?*_
President Emmerson Mnangagwa, in a moment draped in irony—if not contradiction—on Monday appeared on Zimbabwe’s state broadcaster, ZBC, and used a media question from the floor to repeat his claim that he will step down at the end of his second term in 2028.
His office had organised a presser with handpicked editors in an obviously choreographed PR stunt that, clearly, was meant to deflate mounting noise mostly from internal critics regarding the systematic campaign to keep him in office beyond his second and last term.
The president also took advantage of the briefing to placate the senior newsroom managers, most of who were sold a political bubble, expressing his eagerness to ensure media viability and sustainability.
It is true that media violations and persecutions under Mnangagwa are less than during his predecessor’s (Robert Mugabe’s) reign, but the whole briefing was a mess!
The editors let the president off the hook by allowing him to dismiss their questions with stretched humour, but then, more was expected from them as they failed to ask hard questions.
As Mnangagwa spoke, a news scroller at the bottom of the screen flashed details of a proposed constitutional amendment to extend his presidency.
The juxtaposition was almost too perfect, underscoring the deep contradictions and political machinations at play regarding Agenda 2030.
While Mnangagwa insists he is a “constitutionalist” committed to democratic principles, the actions of his loyalists and the structures of power he oversees tell a different story.
Mnangagwa’s declaration that he will not seek a third term comes amid a growing push by his supporters, including cabinet ministers like Daniel Garwe, Ziyambi Ziyambi, and Jenfan Muswere, to amend the constitution and remove presidential term limits.
These figures, who have been vocal proponents of Mnangagwa’s Agenda 2030, have a blank cheque, though un-bankable, to ratchet on with the agenda.
Their persistence raises serious questions about Mnangagwa’s sincerity.
If he is truly committed to stepping down, why has he not publicly and unequivocally instructed his allies to abandon their campaign?
Why has he not used his authority as head of State and ruling party first secretary to ensure that no such bill goes to parliament?
Why did he preside over the Zanu PF conference last December in Bulawayo and allowed the extension of his term to pass as the first and most important resolution?
Mnangagwa wields significant control over Zimbabwe’s legislative process.
Every bill that comes before parliament passes through cabinet, which he chairs. And, as Zanu PF first secretary, he would have easily shot down the 2030 agenda, least because it seeks to benefit him personally.
It takes just a brief directive from him as party leader to silence the agenda, so the fact that he has not caused that to happen can only imply one thing: he is speaking with a forked tongue and is highly unlikely the constitutionalist that he professes to be.
If Mnangagwa is serious about upholding democratic principles, he must do more than make vague and ambivalent statements. He must take concrete action to ensure that the constitutional amendment is not pursued.
That’s because the buck starts and stops with him.
We are all too familiar with this ambivalence: “I want to go, but the people want me to stay.”

_*The Geza inferno and factionalism in Zanu PF: What should citizens fight for?*_
The debate about the factionalism in ZANU-PF has tended to focus on two things. First, it focuses on whether the citizens, particularly the broader opposition, should take sides with Cde Blessed Geza and associates to remove President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The second side focuses on what citizens should demand as a condition for siding with Cde Geza to remove Mnangagwa. In this article, I focus on the second side of this debate. I argue that the demands and expectations of the people must be based on four key considerations.
The first consideration concerns the reasons why the liberation struggle was fought. We need to juxtapose the values and expectations of the liberation struggle with where we are as a nation. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production
There is no doubt that Zimbabwe took an outrageous departure from the values and expectations which undergirded the liberation struggle. We therefore need to take the country back to all the values and expectations of the liberation struggle.
The second consideration concerns the nature and culture of governance which has dominated Zimbabwe since independence.
Zimbabwe has been under a governance culture of vile corruption, nepotism, tribalism, exclusion, incompetence, unaccountability, intolerance, egregious violence, abuse of human rights and democratic freedoms, brazen election rigging, capture and abuse of state institutions, institutionalization of individuals, the pursuit of individualistic instead of collective arrival, and the use of political office for personal gain. This vile governance culture must be unapologetically obliterated.
The third consideration concerns the copy and paste governance systems that we inherited at independence which are alien to our culture, values, practices and being.
There is no doubt that some of the governance challenges that we are facing in Zimbabwe and Africa are rooted in the systems of governance that we adopted at independence. We need to boldly shift from these systems of governance to systems that work for us.
The fourth consideration concerns a collective vision of what we want as Zimbabweans. We need to be able to think beyond our individual interests and political affiliations.
We need to have collective interests which transcend any issues that may divide us, especially tribe and political affiliation.
What should the people demand?
The discussion of what the people should demand has focused on the establishment of a National Transitional Authority or a Government of National Unity. I believe that these expectations and demands must be guided by a number of key considerations for them to be realistic and fruitful.
They must be based on a forensic understanding of the complexities of the politics of transition in Zimbabwe, particularly the nature of ZANU-PF as a party that is not willing to cede power; the political leaders in ZANU-PF who want to continue enjoying the privilege of power and use political office not only to protect their plunder, but to also protect themselves from being made accountable for the abuses they committed during their time in office; the November 2017 coup and how it deepened the militarization of the state; and the interests which pushed Cde Geza and associates to fight for the removal of President Mnangagwa.
The truth is that Cde Geza is fighting for the ascendancy of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga. The 2017 coup is a long and entitled one, it will always protect its interests. Relatedly, he wants those who fought the liberation struggle to be put at the center of ZANU-PF.
He is disgruntled that ZANU-PF has been taken over by what he calls criminals. Indeed, it is, as always, a chinhu chedu (this is our thing) fight.
It is not about the people, but about promoting shareholder interests in ZANU-PF. However, Cde Geza and associates raised some issues that speak to the views and expectations of the masses. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production
He condemned the vile corruption and criminality, incompetence, nepotism, state capture, the mishandling of Gukurahundi, and violations of human rights and democratic freedoms, particularly against the opposition.
Probably the highlight of his press statements is where he stated that:
“As we move forward, this is our plan. We have put enough mechanisms to make sure that the revolution will not be hijacked again. Going forward, all stakeholders of various parties and civic groups will be consulted on every next step we take.
We want to liberate all, so this should never be viewed as a ZANU-PF internal fight. It should never be converted into such. We are going to call for action soon. Stock up in preparation for a national shut down as we march to a free Zimbabwe. This was prophesied long back.
The people of Zimbabwe, get ready for action. Be ready for action once you receive the signal. We have called upon you (Mnangagwa) to step down peacefully and immediately but you have ignored.
The people are going to force you to step down in line with the provisions of the constitution. Once you go, we will allow for a transition to a democratic government where people’s voices are heard and their rights are respected”.
Should the people demand a National Transitional Authority?
The most popular expectation is that Zimbabwe should establish a National Transitional Authority. This expectation is based on the view that the problem of Zimbabwe is not Mnangagwa and the criminals around him, but ZANU-PF as a system.
The solution is therefore to remove the system, not to remove a few elements from the system and bring elements that have been part of the system. We must not be naively excited by the possibility of removing Mnangagwa and crown a “new” president.
We may remove Mnangagwa but end up in the worst of situations just as we removed Mugabe and ended up with the Mnangagwa curse. Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o says that “when a bird in flight gets tired, it will land on any tree”.
This is what happened in 2017 when citizens naively got involved in the removal of Mugabe. We should never land on the same tree that we landed on in 2017, regardless of how desperate for change we are.
The demand for an NTA is not new. People like Dr Ibbo Mandaza have been vocal about it. An NTA is a transitional arrangement, especially established after a violent conflict or major political upheaval.
While NTAs are mandated to execute a number of tasks such as the restoration of peace, security, human rights, and fundamental freedoms, their key mandate is to organize a free, fair, and credible election which facilitates a transition to democratic rule.
While an NTA is the ideal option, there are a number of factors that make it realistically difficult, if not impossible. First, an NTA is necessitated by extraordinary circumstances such a civil war, military intervention by a foreign government(s), or a military coup. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production
While Zimbabwe has been going through difficult challenges, the conditions are not sufficient to force ZANU-PF to accept an NTA.
Second, if ZANU-PF agrees to establish an NTA, it means that it would have agreed to cede power to the opposition, particularly to Advocate Nelson Chamisa. This is because if the NTA arranges a free and fair election, Nelson Chamisa will win.
This is not something which I think ZANU-PF is ready to do for a number of reasons. First, the leaders in ZANU-PF want to continue enjoying the privilege of power and they are afraid that should there be a drastic transition of power, they will be made accountable for the corruption and human rights violations they committed and they will lose their plunder.
Second, the war veterans who have been excluded from the feeding trough, those who risked their life to remove Mugabe, and those who are risking their life to remove Mnangagwa are all waiting for their turn on the feeding trough.
They cannot risk their life for the opposition to walk into power. This is especially considering that an NTA is a short-term arrangement which they may not be required to be part of, given that it has to be run by people who have no political interests so that they can sincerely implement political and electoral reforms.
I therefore believe that while the NTA is the ideal arrangement because it allows us to transition from the vile ZANU-PF regime to a democratically elected government, it is unrealistic because of the complexity of the political interests in ZANU-PF.
An NTA is also difficult to demand because the opposition, including civil society, is currently weak, disorganized, and disoriented.
An NTA, by its nature, is not given but demanded. Authoritarian regimes are not so magnanimous that they can decide to establish an NTA.
Any promises by those who are fighting to remove Mnangagwa that there will be an NTA are hardly believable. We should be careful, otherwise we will be Hukuwinked.
Should the people demand a Government of National Unity?
When Cde Geza said that “we will allow for a transition to a democratic government where people’s voices are heard and their rights are respected”, he was most likely referring to a GNU, not an NTA.
Unlike an NTA, a GNU can accommodate the interests of ZANU-PF leaders that I explained above. It allows them to retain power and protect their interests. It also allows for the gradual as opposed to drastic loss of power by ZANU-PF.
A GNU is not an arrangement which Zimbabweans are excited about because of the 2009-2013 GNU experience. The GNU of 2009-2013 failed to deliver any reforms, with the exception of the 2013 constitution which ZANU-PF is seeking to tear down.
The crisis of trust between ZANU-PF and the opposition, coupled with the lack of common values and vision, makes it extremely difficult for them to establish a fruitful GNU.
If a GNU is to be established, ZANU-PF will consume its time and energy towards infiltrating, outwitting, and exterminating the opposition. For this reason, there is no fruitful dialogue or reforms that can take place within the context of a GNU.
A GNU is a transient palliative, it is incapable of healing Zimbabwe’s deeply troubled soul. The best it can offer is short-term relief from toxic polarization, political violence, and economic wretchedness.
This explains why Alex Magaisa argued that “If there is to be any dialogue, it would not be to form a GNU but to carry out comprehensive reforms that would mitigate the risk of yet another flawed election that would produce an illegitimate outcome”.
However, depending on how it is structured and the culture that characterizes it, a GNU may be a useful way of slowly but surely transitioning from ZANU-PF rule.
Under a GNU, Zimbabwe may take a long electoral Sabbath and focus on implementing electoral reforms and promoting national unity, healing, and reconciliation. However, the chances of the opposition going into a GNU and coming out with nothing are very high.
The dilemma which faces the people of Zimbabwe is that an NTA is the best option, but it is unrealistic in the field of realpolitik. On the other hand, a GNU is realistic, but it cannot deliver the genuine reforms which the people are seeking.
I conclude by arguing that whether we demand an NTA or GNU, our focus should be on the need to introduce a new governance culture that is built on inviolate values, with either an NTA or GNU as a vehicle to take us to that culture.
The search for a new Zimbabwe should be premised on a national pledge to converge on inviolate values despite our political and other differences. For these values, see my paper titled “The Geza inferno and factionalism in ZANU-PF: The search for a value-based Zimbabwe”.

_*Chiwenga Exonerated From Deploying Coup Tanks*_
Vice President Constantino Chiwenga was in Mutare on Wednesday when military tanks were seen in Harare.
Chiwenga was attending the funeral of Sekuru Leonard “Mwatambandini” Kashiri, the father-in-law of Zanu PF National Chairman and Minister of Defence, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri.
Rumours circulated that Chiwenga could have been responsible for deploying more than 20 army tanks onto the streets of Harare to intimidate President Emmerson Mnangagwa as the two battled for control of Zanu PF.
More than 20 military tanks were spotted in Harare’s Borrowdale area, fueling speculation about a possible coup, especially amid deepening divisions within the ruling party. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. The sudden and unusual movement of military hardware mirrors events leading up to the 2017 coup when soldiers were first seen patrolling streets before tanks were deployed to strategic locations, including Parliament and police stations, to disarm the police force, which had become Mugabe’s de facto paramilitary wing.
Back then, the coup was orchestrated by the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) under the leadership of then-General Constantino Chiwenga, with the backing of key military figures such as the late Air Marshal Perrence Shiri and retired General Sibusiso Moyo.
The military’s intervention was triggered by Mugabe’s decision to fire Mnangagwa as Vice President, a move widely seen as paving the way for his wife, Grace Mugabe, to take power.
This alienated war veterans and the military, prompting their intervention.
Mugabe was placed under house arrest, and within days, he was forced to resign, ushering in Mnangagwa as the new president.
Despite growing unease, government officials have dismissed concerns of a coup.
Presidential spokesperson George Charamba, posting under his pseudonym dhonzamusoro007 on social media, stated that the movement of military tanks in Harare was part of routine drills.
However, these assurances have done little to quell fears, especially in light of reports by ZimEye suggesting that a coup may be in the making.
Adding to the anxiety, recent remarks by war veteran and Zanu PF Central Committee member Blessing Geza have intensified speculation.
Geza, a former liberation war fighter with deep military connections, has publicly declared that war veterans will take drastic steps to remove Mnangagwa.
His ultimatum has fueled speculation that a military faction loyal to Chiwenga may be preparing to take action against the president.
Reports suggest that senior military officials and war veterans have held secret meetings to strategize ways to block Mnangagwa’s bid to extend his rule beyond his current term under the controversial #ed2030 agenda.
Sources indicate that the rift between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga has reached a breaking point, with Chiwenga’s faction believing that Mnangagwa has reneged on a 2017 coup agreement that allegedly promised Chiwenga the presidency after Mnangagwa’s first term. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production
Unlike Mugabe in 2017, Mnangagwa has spent years consolidating his grip on power.
He has appointed loyalists to key military positions, purged officials perceived as Chiwenga allies, and neutralized potential rivals within Zanu PF.
Many key figures from the 2017 coup, including Perrence Shiri and Paradzai Zimondi, have died under suspicious circumstances, fueling speculation that Mnangagwa orchestrated their eliminations to weaken Chiwenga’s support base.
Despite these maneuvers, Chiwenga remains influential within the security forces, and reports suggest that a faction of the military and war veterans still see him as Zimbabwe’s rightful leader.
A recent high-level meeting reportedly took place in Mashonaland Central, a province known for political upheavals and strong opposition to Mnangagwa.
Sources close to the discussions claim that many within the military are disillusioned with Mnangagwa’s leadership and are actively plotting against him.
One insider revealed: “You hear what credible war veterans like Blessing Geza are saying. He is not hallucinating; he is communicating a message from the script, and you must listen to him carefully.”
While Mnangagwa has fortified his control over intelligence and security agencies, Zimbabwe’s political landscape remains unpredictable.
If discontent within the military reaches a breaking point, even a well-entrenched president can be overthrown.
With tensions between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga escalating and war veterans openly voicing their grievances, Zimbabwe may be on the verge of yet another military-led political upheaval.
Whether the growing military presence is indeed a precursor to a coup or simply routine drills, the coming weeks will be crucial in determining the nation’s trajectory.
Sekuru Kashiri passed away last Friday at the age of 103.
Chiwenga attended the funeral with several high-ranking Zanu PF officials, including Deputy President of the Senate, Lieutenant General (Rtd) Mike Nyambuya, as well as Ministers Misheck Mugadza, Mariam Chombo, and Supa Mandiwanzira.
_*Ncube expels Tshabangu after CCC internal hearing finds him guilty of misconduct*_
Self-imposed Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) interim secretary general and senator Sengezo Tshabangu has been expelled for indiscipline by the Welshman Ncube led opposition and now faces an embarrassing recall from the Senate.
Tshabangu was dragged before the party’s national disciplinary committee on February 12 this year facing four counts of misconduct which relate to his misdeeds between November and December last year.
The charges against the hawkish politician stemmed from his unilateral decision to make changes of “CCC Parliamentary Portfolio holders without the authority of the President or any organ of the party”, according to a statement by party spokesperson Willias Madzimure Wednesday.
Tshabangu was also charged for making derogatory remarks against Ncube through public media after he had earlier been suspended from the party.
_*EU Lifts Sanctions on Zimbabwe Defense Industries, Maintains Non-Binding Measures*_
Brussels, Belgium – In a significant development, the European Union (EU) has removed Zimbabwe Defense Industries (ZDI) from its sanctions list, marking the end of targeted restrictions on Zimbabwean entities and individuals.
This move follows the United States’ decision in March 2024 to lift sanctions on Zimbabwe, signaling a shift in international relations with the southern African nation.
The EU’s decision means that no Zimbabwean entity or individual remains under direct EU sanctions. However, the bloc has renewed its non-binding Council Decision 2011/101/CFSP, which allows it to unilaterally designate or impose sanctions on any Zimbabwean entity or individual accused of human rights violations. Critics argue that such designations often lack due process and legal justification, raising concerns about their fairness and transparency.
This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. Under this framework, the EU retains the authority to enforce measures such as halting military equipment sales, freezing assets, restricting financial transactions, imposing travel bans, and pressuring third parties to comply with its directives—all without the need for new guidelines. Importantly, these measures are not legally binding regulations but rather recommendations for EU member states.
The removal of ZDI and all Zimbabwean entities from the sanctions list is seen as a victory for anti-sanctions advocates and diplomatic efforts that have long challenged the legality and impact of these measures. “This is a step in the right direction, but the continued existence of non-binding measures undermines the progress made,” said a spokesperson for a Zimbabwean anti-sanctions organization.
While the lifting of sanctions is a positive development, the EU’s renewed Council Decision highlights the ongoing complexities in Zimbabwe’s relationship with the international community. The move reflects a delicate balance between easing restrictions and maintaining oversight, as Zimbabwe continues to navigate its path toward economic recovery and global reintegration.
_*Harare City Council’s Medical Aid Society bought a US$1,4 million non existent property*_
Harare City Council’s Medical Aid Society bought a US$1,4 million property which it never took possession of before it was subsequently sold under unclear circumstances, but the municipality never got its money back.
According to a forensic audit of Harare Municipal Medical Aid Society (HMMAS) dated August 11, 2023, several anomalies were obtained including overpricing and double payment of another property in Ruwa amounting to US$1,2 million.
The audit revealed that the medical aid society bought properties without obtaining title deeds, which has led to complications in tracing them.
Further, for some months the former chief executive officer personally collected money for members’ subscriptions from the City of Harare, but it was observed that US$246 500 was not received by the cashier.
According to the audit report, there was an agreement of sale entered into by Everleigh Services Private Limited represented by AfrAsia Bank and HMMAS for the purchase of land held under Title Deed 11020/99.
It says the total value was US$1,7 million of which a deposit of US$1,4 million was paid.
The transaction took place on February 13, 2015.
Investigations showed that the board was informed that the property was held as security by the High Court for HMMAS for funds locked in Kingdom Bank.
“We observed that despite the full payment having been made, it never became HMMAS property but instead, it was sold to Cheetah Express Logistics Private Limited on 22 July 2018.
“HMMAS suffered an actual prejudice of US$1,4 million and US$300 000 respectively. There are no records to show that the above transaction was reversed, and money receipted back into HMMAS accounts,” reads the forensic audit. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. According to the audit, it was further noted that after HMMAS bought the property, a total of US$300 000 would have been required as conveyancing fees and stamp duty.
The audit said in any event, the US$300 000 presented to the board was way above normal fees for the transaction given that Capital Gains Tax was 4 percent of purchase price (US$1, 7 million) was US$68 000. Conveyancing fees were round 3 percent and a negligible figure for stamp duty.
HMMAS recently came under for buying a 12-roomed house in Ruwa for a staggering US$1,2 million.
The forensic audit shows that according to the agreement of sale signed by both parties, the value of the building was US$700 000 which was paid in full including US$100 000 conveyancing fees paid into the Trust Account of Muza and Nyapadi Legal Practitioners.
The audit observed that the $100 000 was way above the stipulated expected conveyancing fees, which is 4 percent of the purchase price and should have been US$28 000.
Even if duty stamps were to be paid at prevailing rates, the total sum would not have come to the US$100 000 paid.
The audit found that pursuant to the purchase of Fortress Hospital, more than US$700 000 was paid over and above the initial US$700 000 that was already paid through Kingdom Bank.
“After that, and without supporting documents, a sum of US$650 000 was stated and paid as payment for equipment. Whereas we observed that Briward Enterprises values the equipment that was there at the material time to be US$100 000, HMMAS was prejudiced to the sum of US$550 000.” Herald
_*Zimbabwe compensating ex-white farmers for ‘developments’ while ignoring the Africans who worked on the land – says CCC MP*_
CITIZENS Coalition for Change (CCC) legislator Darlington Chigumbu has said that the government’s initiative to compensate former white farmers overlooks the disadvantaged black workers who toiled on the farms.
The government recently announced that it is disbursing US$20 million to farmers who were displaced as a result of the land reform process aimed at addressing historical injustices in the early 2000s.
poster
The 94 farmers, hailing from countries such as Switzerland and Germany, are covered under Bilateral Investment Protection and Promotion Agreements (BIPPAs) that Zimbabwe signed with the farmers’ countries of origin.
Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube said that the compensation is for the developments the farmers carried out on the farms prior to their displacement.
Speaking in the National Assembly recently, Chigumbu argued that the programme is ignoring the historical injustices suffered by native workers while developing the farms.
“It is a good thing that our country is honouring its commitments. I would want to bring to the attention of this House that we need to be cognisant of the fact that there are some historical injustices that happened as these people acquired the land. It is a good thing that the Ministry is saying they are paying these people for the developments that were made on the land that was repossessed around 2000.
“However, they should also not be blind to the fact that the developments that these people are now being paid for, actually came as a result of labour practises that were near to slavery and our grandfathers are no longer there to be part and parcel or to also claim with these farmers to say they also contributed to the development of that particular piece of land as well as not being treated fairly.
“It is also sad that this whole arrangement seems not to be taking into consideration these people who participated in the development of these particular pieces of land,” said Chugumbu.
This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. The government has faced criticism from opposition groups for compensating landowners whose land was forcibly taken from local inhabitants during the colonial era.
Chigumbu further suggested that there should be a mechanism to ensure that the native workers who laboured on these farms are also compensated.
“The third aspect is that when the land was re-distributed, the big guys are the ones who took parts of the farm land which was properly developed and l can tell that they are not part and parcel of this whole arrangement.
“My prayer is that can this arrangement include a model whereby these people who are going to receive the payments of the developments that they have done on these pieces of land also pay the people who worked on these pieces of land, which they were not paid fairly during the time they were working on these pieces of land?
“I understand most of these people are no longer alive but is it not also prudent Mr. Speaker Sir, to say that they can give back to the communities where their farms are located so that they can also pay something? The reason would be because they are now benefiting from something they did not pay for in as much as we are talking about the developments that were done on the pieces of land that they are now being paid for,” he said.

_*Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers (CZR) says urgent action needed to save retailers*_
The Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers (CZR) has called for urgent interventions to address challenges weighing down the country’s retail sector, which it said stood at a critical crossroads.
CZR said the retail sector was battling several economic pressures, threatening its survival.
Despite the challenges, CZR said the retail sector remained a key part of Zimbabwe’s economy, ensuring food security, employment and revenue collection.
However, Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor Dr John Mushayavanhu said the challenges in the country’s retail sector were not confined or entirely related to a difficult environment, but issues in some of the formal traders’ management systems and questionable decision-making.
While some of the retailers are battling viability challenges, others appear to be thriving, lending credence to some of the central bank governor’s assertions.
Dr Mushayavanhu said this as he announced, during the presentation of the 2025 Monetary Policy Statement, the extension of the targeted trade facility to the retail sector to assist with working capital.
The facility, previously set aside for productive sectors, can now also be used to buy foreign currency on the interbank market.
The central bank announced several interventions to anchor the prevailing economic stability, amid a tight monetary policy stance, complementing measures announced in the 2025 National Budget late last year.

_*ZRP in huge drugs haul*_
SEPARATE raids by crack teams from the police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and Vehicle Theft Squad (VTS) conducted in Bulawayo’s western suburbs and the city centre have led to the arrest of several suspects, including minors involved in dangerous drugs and substances.
Among those arrested for taking illicit substances and smoking dagga were a 12-year-old girl doing Grade Seven at a local primary school, a 14-year-old boy who is in Form Two and an 18-year-old female in Form Three.
The first raid was conducted in Entumbane and Njube suburbs on Tuesday while more suspects were nabbed in the city centre yesterday.
A huge haul of Broncleer cough syrup — an over-the-counter cough medicine that is abused by drug users — marijuana and crystal meth were seized in the two raids by police at several houses in the western areas and streets in the city centre.
Among the arrested individuals is a security guard employed by a local security company and an Entumbane resident whose house was used to host drug initiation parties for school children as young as 12 years old.
The raid was a culmination of information supplied to police by members of the community and police intelligence leading to the arrest of the suspects as authorities continue to fight against drug peddling and use in the city.
Yesterday, police paraded the suspects together with the drugs at the Bulawayo Central Police Station. Bulawayo provincial acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, said one of the suspects intimidated residents in Entumbane by claiming that he was untouchable and police could not arrest him.
“One suspect, Elliot Ndlovu, aged 24, was telling residents of Entumbane that police feared him and would not do anything to him as he was untouchable. ZRP would like to put it on record that there is no one above the law,” said Asst Insp Msebele. “CID Bulawayo went on to conduct a raid in Entumbane and Njube suburbs and arrested six suspects after they were found in possession of drugs ranging from crystal meth and dagga. Bulawayo mayor and human rights lawyer David Coltart has weighed in on former U.S. President Donald J. Trump’s controversial statement regarding Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in which Trump labeled Zelensky a “dictator” due to Ukraine’s lack of elections since Russia’s invasion.
In a pointed response, Coltart drew a historical parallel with World War II, highlighting that while the United Kingdom held elections during the war, it did not conduct a general election. The last general election before the war was in 1935, and the next only occurred in July 1945, following the war’s end. During the conflict, Britain was governed by a wartime coalition government led by Winston Churchill, comprising the Conservative, Labour, and Liberal parties. The general election due in 1940 was postponed under the Emergency Powers (Defence) Act.

_*Mbappé magic as Madrid dump Man City from Champions League..Scores a hat trick*_
MADRID, Spain -- Kylian Mbappé sealed Real Madrid's 6-3 aggregate victory over Manchester City with a hat trick at the Santiago Bernabéu as the reigning European champions booked their place in the UEFA Champions League round of 16.
Real, seeking their sixteenth Champions League title, went into the second leg of the playoff with a 3-2 lead over the Premier League champions after last week's win at the Etihad. And with City forward Erling Haaland fit enough for only a place on the substitutes' bench, Carlo Ancelotti's team made easy work of the 2023 Champions League winners.

_*’Nothing is eternal' - Guardiola 'accepts reality' as Man City exit*’
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola said "nothing is eternal" after his side were knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid.
City have enjoyed great success under Guardiola, with their trophy haul under the former Barcelona boss including six Premier Leagues and the European Cup in 2023.
However, they have endured the most testing campaign of his reign this term, having dropped out of the domestic title race amid an injury crisis and now out of Europe after Wednesday's loss in Madrid.
"Nothing is eternal," Guardiola said. "We have been unbelievable and we have to try step by step to get better from today. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production
"We have been extraordinarily extraordinary in the past, but not any more.
"We have 13 games [left in the Premier League] and have to be top four or five to try to be [in the Champions League] again."
After narrowly losing the first leg of their knockout play-off tie 3-2 at Etihad Stadium, City were a distant second best in Madrid, with Kylian Mbappe scoring a hat-trick as the hosts won 3-1 on the night to ease through 6-3 on aggregate.
"We couldn't defend well with the movement from Mbappe and it was more difficult," added Guardiola.
"The best team won, they deserved it. They were better. What we have to do is accept the reality and move forward."
City striker Erling Haaland was not fully fit because of injury and was named on the substitutes' bench.
The Norway international did not take part in the warm-up and was not brought on despite his side trailing.
"Erling tried to train," Guardiola said.
"Apparently with the images we have done he is fine but he had discomfort walking. He said I am not ready, I don't feel good."
