Chiwenga's faction had already unleashed war veterans to pressure Mnangagwa into abandoning his third-term project while also demanding his departure, accusing him of dismal failure. The war veterans further charged Mnangagwa with nepotism, mismanagement, cronyism, corruption, and incompetence. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. Mnangagwa's allies fought back against the war veterans, particularly targeting Blessed Geza, who became their most vocal critic. Geza has since fled the country after facing backlash from Mnangagwa's allies, officials, youth league leaders, and ministers. Police are currently hunting for Geza, who now faces four criminal charges, including allegedly undermining the authority of and insulting the President. Authorities are also contemplating a murder charge against him. Following Monday's turning point, the display of armoured personnel carriers in Harare yesterday was widely interpreted as a show of military strength amid the ongoing succession power struggle between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga. The unresolved leadership tensions have been simmering for some time, with Chiwenga reportedly consolidating support within the military and Zanu-PF to block Mnangagwa's attempt to extend his rule beyond two terms. Although Mnangagwa repeatedly denied any intentions to remain in power beyond 2028, his actions often contradicted his statements. Chiwenga has moved to tighten his grip on the military, evidenced by the recent appointments of his allies, Zimbabwe National Army commander Lieutenant-General Anselem Sanyatwe and Air Marshal John Jacob Nzvede, as the army and air force chiefs, respectively. These strategic moves are seen as efforts to position Chiwenga's allies in influential roles, paving the way for a major political challenge to Mnangagwa. Mnangagwa, however, still retains some influence through Zimbabwe Defence Forces commander General Philip Valerio Sibanda, whose tenure he recently extended by a year. Sibanda had been expected to retire, presenting an opportunity for Chiwenga to further consolidate his power. Mnangagwa attempted to transition Sibanda into mainstream politics by appointing him to the Zanu-PF decision-making politburo as a counterbalance to Chiwenga, but the move failed due to constitutional restrictions. Having allowed his allies and supporters to campaign for a third term, and after forcing through a crucial resolution at the Zanu-PF annual conference in Bulawayo last October, Mnangagwa's plan has now unraveled. The display of military hardware in Harare was seen as a clear show of force by Chiwenga's faction, signaling their readiness to take control. Military sources and analysts viewed the show of power as a significant moment, highlighting the army's leverage in Zimbabwean politics. Armoured personnel carriers, typically used to transport troops and equipment in combat zones, were displayed publicly, demonstrating military strength. While such displays are common for ceremonial purposes in many nations, in Zimbabwe's politically charged climate, the parade carried deeper implications. The brandishing of military hardware can influence public perception, serving as both a demonstration of strength and a potential tool for coercion. Given Zimbabwe's history of political instability and human rights concerns, the military's involvement in this power struggle is cause for concern. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. Ultimately, the parading of armoured personnel carriers in Harare underscores the complexities and nuances of Zimbabwe's political landscape. While it signals Mnangagwa's apparent checkmate, it also raises broader questions about the military's role in governance. This development heightens concerns over the country's stability, already undermined by severe economic challenges. As the power struggle between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga escalates, Zimbabweans are left uncertain about their nation's future. _*Mnangagwa faces litmus test*_ President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his Zanu-PF allies face a significant political test at the National Youth Day commemorations at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre in Bulawayo tomorrow, as tensions over the increasingly contentious ED2030 campaign - widely seen as a bid to extend his presidency - continue to rise. The commemorations, rooted in the 21st February Movement established to honor the late former President Robert Mugabe's birthday, will be addressed by Mnangagwa. Although the event is primarily focused on youth empowerment, the underlying political tensions and high-stakes contest over Mnangagwa's future will add a major dimension to proceedings. The theme of the event, "Empower Youth, Secure the Future," will bring together thousands of young people from across the country. However, political observers expect the gathering to serve as a crucial barometer for Mnangagwa's leadership, particularly in light of his repeated denials—seven times this week alone—of any intentions to amend the constitution to extend his presidency beyond two terms. Mnangagwa and senior party officials are already in Bulawayo for the commemorations, but the key question remains: Is the ED2030 campaign truly over, or is it merely shifting strategies? Zanu-PF's factional battles will be on full display, with allies of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga closely monitoring whether Mnangagwa's supporters will continue pushing the 2030 slogan or if they will be silenced following the President's public disavowal of term extension plans earlier this week. A senior Mnangagwa ally, speaking on condition of anonymity, indicated that the party's position on the issue remains unclear. "There is a party resolution on this matter, and a constitutional process had already begun. We will hear from senior comrades on how to proceed, but the President cannot just throw us under the bus like this and leave us exposed to those who want him out." Meanwhile, a senior figure within Chiwenga's military-backed faction stated: "Tomorrow will be crucial; we want to see if Mnangagwa will allow his people to chant the 2030 slogan and how he reacts. If they continue, it means he is still backing them and misleading the nation. If they stop, it means he has finally silenced them. This event provides the best platform to gauge his true position." While youth empowerment and investment initiatives will officially take center stage, the real focus will be on Mnangagwa's every move and statement. His response to any chants or signs of continued support for ED2030 will be analyzed as an indicator of his commitment—or lack thereof—to stepping down at the end of his term. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. Overall, the National Youth Day commemorations in Bulawayo are set to be a pivotal event, not just in celebrating the role of young people in Zimbabwe's future, but also in shaping the political landscape within Zanu-PF as succession battles and power struggles intensify. _*Zanu PF fires 6 ‘rogue elements’ from ‘Social Media Unit’ over attacks on leaders*_ Zanu PF employs dozens of internet trolls to attack its opponents, according to a document seen by ZimLive. The trolls are employed under the Varakashi4ED Social Media Unit, with the party’s legal secretary Patrick Chinamasa serving as its executive director. The information was obtained after Chinamasa fired six members of the unit for allegedly attacking senior members of the party. Chinamasa announced the move in a February 11 letter to the party’s national political commissar Munyaradzi Machacha. He wrote: “On February 3, 2025, I met with His Excellency, the president and first secretary of Zanu PF Cde Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa to discuss disciplinary issues within the Varakashi4ED Social Media Unit, which I lead as the executive director… “After reviewing serious infractions by rogue elements who attacked the unit’s leadership and senior party officials, the following recommendations were made: ♦️ Permanent removal of Jonasi Mandiwisa Musara, Tafadzwa Mawire, Tinotenda Gachange, Felix Muzondo, Pardon Mangwende and Herbert Mathe from the Varakashi4ED Social Media Unit. ♦️ Varakashi4ED Social Media Unit shall be the party’s sole Zanu PF recognised social media affiliate. ♦️ Expedited implementation of a party social media management policy by the commissariat, information and publicity and legal departments.” Chinamasa advised Machacha that Norman Mbimbi would now be administrator of Varakashi4ED with Dereck Goto as director of operations. “I kindly request your office to enforce these recommendations as per His Excellency’s directive… I will continue overseeing the Unit in my capacity as executive director,” Chinamasa added. It has long been rumoured that Zanu PF employs social media trolls to magnify its messages and attack rivals, but this is the first time proof has been obtained of their existence. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. In the same letter, Chinamasa said the unit was established following Mnangagwa’s directive “ahead of the 2023 harmonised elections.” One of those jettisoned from the unit, Jonasi Mandiwisa Musara, who uses the name Jones Musara on social media, tweeted on Thursday: “Now back to law school which requires lots of studying, writing assignments and particpating in tutorials. My time on social media will be obviously drastically reduced because of that.” _*Fired Varakashi4ED leader exposes coup plot against Mnangagwa*_ The firing of top varakashis from the ruling party’s social media unit has exposed what has been described as a coup plot against President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa. Fired Varakashi leader Jones Musara spilled the beans, saying there are elements within ZANU PF who are stirring up a coup against Mnangagwa. “Finally the rebels inciting a coup against @edmnangagwa are coming out,” he says. Musara was reacting to a statement by another top Murakashi Kudzai Mutisi who commended Patrick Chinamasa for a bold move to fire what have been described as rogue Varakashis. “Comrade Chinamasa has cracked the whip to restore order in the Varakashi4ED camp. “And he did so with the approval of the President,” wrote Mutisi. However, Musara responded: “Stop lying there is no such approval from President ED Mnangagwa! These imaginary whips are from anti-ED elements who are seized with inciting a coup against President ED Mnangagwa! “Makanyangira yawona,” he charged. Apparently, varakashis are social media trolls employed by ZANU PF to attack its opponents. These troll are housed under the Varakashi4ED Social Media Unit headed by Chinamasa. _*HStv journalist Blessed Mhlanga who interviewed Geza has been hospitalized after his health suddenly started deteriorating*_ Heart and Soul TV journalist Blessed Mhlanga says he has been hospitalized, after his health suddenly started deteriorating. Mhlanga posted the following message on his X handle: Dhara Blessed Mhlanga HSTV@bbmhlanga “I tripping, I am falling and I can’t get up.” My health is failing me, my mind spinning. “I am in a hospital right now. “But I am grateful of the support that I have received from you, my employers and my family. This is a trying time for me. All I am doing is my job.” This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. _*Mnangagwa Goes Rogue: Blessed Geza’s Wife Arrested*_ Roseline Ndaizivei Tawengwa, the wife of prominent lawyer Blessed Runesu Geza, has been arrested by Zimbabwean police this evening and is reportedly being taken to Harare Central Police Station. Tawengwa’s arrest comes amid growing concerns over police conduct and due process, as her husband, Geza, has been leading a high-profile legal battle against President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s controversial bid to extend his presidency beyond 2028. Geza, a well-known constitutional lawyer and human rights activist, has been at the forefront of efforts to challenge legal manoeuvres that could pave the way for Mnangagwa to remain in power until 2030. His firm has filed multiple legal challenges, arguing that any attempt to extend Mnangagwa’s term would be unconstitutional and a direct violation of democratic principles. In a letter dated 19 February 2025, Tawengwa’s lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa of Mtetwa & Nyambirai, raised alarm over the police’s treatment of her client. The letter, addressed to the Officer in Charge of CID Law and Order, detailed how police officers visited Tawengwa’s home on 17 and 18 February 2025, questioning her about her husband’s whereabouts. “Our client believes that she answered your team’s questions to the best of her ability and was surprised to receive a call today from your Detective Inspector Chiota directing that she report to the Law & Order Section at 10:00 hrs today,” the letter read. Mtetwa further expressed concern that Tawengwa had not been informed whether she was a suspect or a witness in any investigation. “She does not know whether she is a suspect, a potential witness, what crime you are investigating, against whom, etc. Consequently, she is not comfortable with your request that she attend at Law & Order without any explanation,” the lawyer wrote. Tawengwa’s arrest has raised suspicions of political harassment, with critics questioning whether it is an attempt to pressure or intimidate Geza over his legal opposition to Mnangagwa’s term extension. Human rights organisations have repeatedly accused Zimbabwean authorities of using state institutions to target dissenting voices. As of this evening, the specific charges or reasons behind Tawengwa’s detention remain unclear. Mtetwa has demanded full disclosure regarding her legal status and the nature of the investigation. _*Police Roadblocks Emerge Amid Coup Fears*_ Police, roadblocks have resurfaced across Zimbabwe, with citizens complaining that law enforcement officers are using them to extort money from motorists. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. These concerns come at a time when the Zimbabwean Army deployed more than 20 tanks onto the streets of Harare on Wednesday. Authorities have claimed the tanks were part of routine military drills, but the timing has fueled speculation of potential political instability. This development, coupled with a statement from Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe confirming that police roadblocks would remain in place, has intensified coup fears among Zimbabweans. Many recall similar circumstances preceding the 2017 coup that ousted long-time ruler Robert Mugabe. In a statement, Kazembe, like the Army officials who defended the presence of tanks, justified the decision to continue with police roadblocks and patrols. He cited public safety concerns and the necessity of maintaining law and order on the roads: “Our people complain when police presence increases, and they complain when it is reduced. We have resolved to let the law guide us. The police will enforce regulations firmly, whether people complain or not.” Kazembe also emphasized the government’s commitment to implementing an electronic traffic management system to enhance law enforcement efficiency: “Technology doesn’t discriminate – it does not care about your face, relationship, or status. It ensures fairness and holds everyone accountable. By the end of this year, we will have this solution in place, and it will end the chaos on our roads.” He further urged drivers to adhere to traffic laws and called on the public to cooperate with the police to uphold safety standards. Kazembe warned that reckless drivers and lawbreakers would face severe penalties as part of broader efforts to restore order. The heightened security measures come amid increasing political tensions within the ruling ZANU-PF party. War veteran and ZANU-PF Central Committee member Blessing Geza has publicly threatened to expose plans by war veterans to remove President Emmerson Mnangagwa from power. Geza, known for his close ties to powerful military factions, recently issued an ultimatum for Mnangagwa to resign, warning of drastic action if he refuses. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. Reports suggest that a faction within the military, aligned with Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, is growingincreasingly dissatisfied with Mnangagwa’s leadership. Many believe Mnangagwa has reneged on an alleged agreement from the 2017 coup, which was said to guarantee Chiwenga eventual leadership. Adding to public anxiety, a viral video featuring an unnamed prophet has surfaced, predicting a violent coup in Zimbabwe. The prophet warned: “The Lord has spoken, and I must pray for Zimbabwe. I saw another coup—one that will bring chaos and bloodshed. This will not be like before; this time, there will be much suffering, and many lives will be lost.” Another prominent prophet, Ian Ndlovu, has also issued a chilling prophecy of impending military unrest, cautioning that the country’s deepening power struggle could spiral out of control. The current political climate bears striking similarities to the events leading up to the November 2017 coup, when the military intervened to remove Mugabe after decades in power. The coup was orchestrated by then-Vice President Mnangagwa and top military officials, including Chiwenga, who later became Vice President. At the time, military tanks rolled into Harare under the pretext of protecting national stability. The coup was justified as an effort to restore democracy, but in reality, it was a high-stakes power struggle within ZANU-PF. Mnangagwa ultimately emerged victorious, but his tenure has been marked by growing discontent within the military ranks and ruling party structures. With tensions reaching a boiling point once again, the presence of tanks in Harare and the resurgence of roadblocks have reignited fears of another political shake-up. Whether these developments signal the early stages of a coup or are merely precautionary security measures remains to be seen. However, one thing is clear: Zimbabwe’s political landscape remains as volatile as ever. _*Midlands Province remains firm and stands with Zanu-PF’s People’s Conference resolution number 1 which resolved to extend President Mnangagwa’s term to the year 2030, Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Owen Ncube says*_ The Midlands Province remains firm and stands with Zanu-PF’s People’s Conference resolution number 1 which resolved to extend President Mnangagwa’s term to the year 2030, Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Owen Ncube has said. He said this while giving his opening remarks at the launch of War Veterans residential stands scheme in Gweru yesterday. Minister Ncube said President Mnangagwa has done a lot, coming up with robust economic turn around programmes that he should see out through 2030. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. “Fellow Comrades, I assure you that the Midlands Province remains steadfast, resolute and unwavering in support of Resolution number 1 overwhelmingly endorsed by all the country’s 10 Provinces in Bulawayo last year mandating His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe Cde Dr E.D Mnangagwa to lead the nation towards attainment of our National Vision 2030. “The voice of the people is the voice of God,” he said. Minister Ncube said the Second Republic under the leadership of President Mnangagwa came up with a broader economic turn around programmes that compassed every one including the veterans of the liberation struggle hence the need to extend the President’s term. “Today’s landmark empowerment initiative targeting Veterans of the Liberation Struggle attests to the Second Republic’s unwavering commitment towards upholding and defending the objectives of the liberation struggle, among them economic empowerment and defending our national sovereignty, interests and ethos. “Accordingly, this event showcases the indelible footprint of the New Dispensation’s pursuit of universal access to shelter as provided for in terms of Section 28 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe National Human Settlement Policy. “Furthermore, allocation of residential stands to Veterans of the Liberation Struggle seamlessly aligns with the supreme law of our country, the Constitution of Zimbabwe and other statutes which recognise the role of Veterans in the war of liberation and after independence and provide for the welfare of veterans who fought in the war of liberation, assisted fighters, and those restricted and detained for their political activism,” he said He said the nation should take pride in President Mnangagwa’s leadership style that was all inclusive. “It is therefore befitting that our nation takes pride in the people-oriented leadership of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde Dr E.D Mnangagwa himself a decorated freedom fighter who trained in Tanzania, Egypt and The People’s Republic of China and survived the death penalty on a legal technicality. “Following the ushering in of the New Dispensation in 2017, His Excellency the President Cde Dr E.D Mnangagwa immediately rolled out robust programmes and projects designed to recognise, uphold and amplify the resilience, loyalty, consistency and perseverance of the selfless sacrifices of Veterans of the liberation struggle during the second and third Chimurenga,” he said. Herald _*Zimbabwe’s ICT Minister Accused of Fraudulent PhD and Fake Doctorate*_ Zimbabwe’s Minister of Information Communication Technology (ICT), Tatenda Mavetera, has been accused of paying an academic in Mutare to complete her PhD on her behalf while fraudulently using the title “Dr” based on a bogus honorary degree. An investigation by UK-based investigative platform Dug’s Substack has exposed a troubling web of deception, raising serious questions about her academic credibility and integrity. Mavetera, a former actress-turned-politician, has publicly claimed to hold multiple degrees, including an Honours Bachelor of Science in Management and Marketing from the Women’s University in Africa, two master’s degrees, and an ongoing PhD from Midlands State University (MSU). However, Dug’s Substack has revealed that while she is registered as an MSU student, she hired a Mutare-based academic to conduct her research and liaise with her supervisor, a clear case of academic fraud. “While students may engage third parties for editing, Dug Up understands Mavetera’s ghostwriter was in direct contact with her MSU supervisor, amounting to a serious breach of academic integrity,” the investigative report stated. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. Despite these revelations, MSU has remained tight-lipped. In response to queries, the institution confirmed Mavetera’s registration as a PhD student but avoided addressing concerns about fraud, stating that privacy laws limited their ability to discuss her academic progress. Mavetera’s academic fraud does not end with the ghostwritten PhD. In October 2022, she announced she had received an honorary doctorate from the International Women’s University (IWU), an entity linked to the International Institute of Philanthropy (IIP) – a fraudulent institution banned by Zimbabwe’s High Court in 2024 (Case No. HCH1469/24). “IIP, PIZ, and other organisations run by convicted fraudster Enrico Maverick (Sibanda) have been exposed as fronts for handing out bogus awards to individuals seeking prestige,” Dug’s Substack reported. Despite the court ruling barring individuals from using IIP-conferred titles, Mavetera continues to present herself as “Dr Mavetera” on government platforms. The official website of the ICT Ministry and event posters still refer to her using the fraudulent title, further undermining her credibility. When confronted with questions about her qualifications, Mavetera did not provide answers but instead allegedly resorted to intimidation. On 18 February, Dug’s Substack sent formal inquiries to her office. The following day, lead journalist Maynard Manyowa received veiled threats, implying the minister knew his whereabouts. These threats have since been reported to Derbyshire Police in the UK under crime reference number 612-190225 and have also been escalated to the National Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zimbabwe, and the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ). Mavetera’s case is not an isolated incident but part of a broader pattern of Zimbabwean elites acquiring dubious qualifications to enhance their public image. The IIP and its affiliates have conferred fake honorary doctorates on numerous figures, some of whom have since disowned the titles. In 2014, former Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) Commissioner-General Gershem Pasi publicly rejected an IIP honorary degree, while in 2023, businessman and musician Mudiwa Hood followed suit, acknowledging the institution’s fraudulent nature. Despite these precedents, Mavetera remains defiant, actively using the title “Dr” in official functions, seven months after the High Court ruling declared her degree invalid. Mavetera’s continued use of a bogus doctorate and her alleged outsourcing of PhD work raise critical questions for both MSU and the government. MSU’s failure to address potential academic fraud within its institution threatens its credibility. If a sitting minister can openly defy academic and legal standards, what does this mean for the institution’s integrity and Zimbabwe’s education system at large? For now, Mavetera remains in office, but as scrutiny intensifies, pressure will mount for both the government and MSU to take decisive action. Dug’s Substack has announced plans to release further investigations into Mavetera’s other academic qualifications, with additional reports expected by the end of the month. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. This is a developing story. More updates to follow. _*ZiG loses nearly half its value since introduction, Hanke*_ The country’s local currency, Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) has depreciated by 49 percent against the USD since its introduction in April 2024. This is according to renowned American economic analyst Professor Steve Hanke, a specialist in tracking troubled currencies worldwide. He says according to his latest check, the Zimbabwean currency was the second worst world over. Hanke has been urging Harare to fully dollarise. However, President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s administration says it is currently working towards a mono-currency, ZiG. Finance and Investment Promotion minister Professor Mthuli Ncube recently disclosed that plans are underway to dump the US dollar. _*RBZ Reject POSB Looting Claims…*_ The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has categorically dismissed rumours circulating on social media suggesting that the People’s Own Savings Bank (POSB) has been sold to foreign investors. In a press statement issued on Tuesday, RBZ Governor Dr John Mushayavanhu refuted the allegations, assuring the public—particularly POSB depositors—that no such transaction had taken place or been authorised by the bank. “The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe is concerned about a false story circulating on social media to the effect that POSB could have been sold to some foreign investors. The public, and particularly POSB depositors, are advised that any purported sale of a banking business would require the authority of The Registrar of Banks and Exchange Control among other approvals,” read the statement. Dr Mushayavanhu further clarified that the RBZ has neither received any application for the purchase of POSB nor any correspondence from the Zimbabwean government, including His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. “If there had been any directive for the sale, it would have had to be addressed to the Reserve Bank as the approving authority. We can categorically confirm that the Reserve Bank never received any such directive, neither has it processed any application from the named investors.” He reiterated that without RBZ’s approval, no sale of POSB could be legally executed, urging the public to dismiss the false claims with “the contempt they deserve.” POSB, a state-owned bank, has been previously earmarked for privatisation under Zimbabwe’s broader economic reforms. In 2018, the government announced plans to partially privatise the bank by selling a stake to a strategic investor. However, no official sale has been confirmed to date. The latest claims of a foreign acquisition sparked concerns among depositors and stakeholders, prompting RBZ’s swift response. Analysts believe that while privatisation remains a possibility, any transaction must follow legal procedures and be publicly disclosed. This incident underscores the growing impact of misinformation on Zimbabwe’s financial sector. False reports about bank transactions can trigger panic among depositors, affecting confidence in the banking system. Financial expert Tafadzwa Mpofu warned that such rumours could destabilise the market. “When people start questioning the security of their savings based on false information, it can lead to unnecessary panic withdrawals, undermining the stability of financial institutions,” he said. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. Authorities have urged the public to verify information through official channels before spreading unverified claims. With RBZ’s firm dismissal of the alleged POSB sale, attention now turns to the government’s long-term plans for the bank. While privatisation discussions have been ongoing, any future sale would require transparency and adherence to regulatory approvals. For now, POSB depositors can rest assured that their bank remains under full government ownership, as no transaction has been approved. _*…As POSB is ordered to ‘open vaults’ to Mnangagwa’s handpicked new investors*_ President Emmerson Mnangagwa has ordered the sale of the People’s Own Savings Bank (POSB) to a consortium fronted by Zanu PF-supporting cleric Morris Brown Gwedegwe, against advice from the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency which questioned the source of funds for his Hebrew Investment Group, ZimLive can reveal. The POSB, now under the Mutapa Investment Fund, is one of at least eight loss-making parastatals the government has put up for sale. Instead of a public process to invite bids for POSB, Mnangagwa – through attorney general Virginia Mabiza – handpicked Hebrew Investment Group as the investment partner. Under the terms of the deal, Hebrew Investment Group will take up 70 percent shareholding in POSB by contributing US$70 million of the US$100 million required to capitalise the bank. The government of Zimbabwe will remain with a 10 percent stake financed through existing POSB assets while the other $20 million for a 20 percent stake will come from private individuals. A joint venture agreement signed between Mabiza and Hebrew Investment Group CEO Professor Emile Kue on December 18, 2024, also says Hebrew Investment Group will advance the government of Zimbabwe a US$6 billion loan to be repayed over 30 years. The loan will attract interest of 0.3 percent per annum and it is to be repaid through the government’s dividends from its POSB shareholding. ZimLive understands ZIDA questioned the company’s source of funds and tried to stall the signing of the joint venture agreement, but Mnangagwa and Mabiza railroaded it through. In a February 13, 2025, letter to the POSB CEO and board, Mabiza introduced Hebrew Investment Group as “our joint venture partners with the government of Zimbabwe in support of President E.D. Mnangagwa’s socio-economic development plan.” Mabiza said Hebrew Investment Group representatives Gwedegwe, CEO Kue and the company’s vice president Professor Israel Kodiaga would visit POSB on a familiarisation tour. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. She directed POSB to, among other things, allow for a “first hand examination of the bank’s vaults which are intended to be used for direct monetisation by the Hebrew Investment Group.” Gwedegwe is a former Anglican bishop kicked out of the church over alleged embezzlement of funds. Last year, the Zimbabwe Council of Churches disassociated itself from Gwedegwe after he attended the Zanu PF annual conference in Bulawayo claiming to be representing the council. Not much is known about Professor Emile Kue. A native of Ethiopia, he is described online as the president of the National Association of Hebrews in the United States, based in Texas. A website under development also links him to a “Proposed Hebrew Federal Credit Union… designed to control the US$1.9 trillion spending power of the black community in the United States for the future of the next generation.” Professor Kodiaga, meanwhile, is a Kenyan national who says on his LinkedIn that he is the director general of African affairs at Global Unification International based in Queensland, Australia. He says he provides “leadership, co-coordinating research, training and consultancy on African governance, peace and security architecture” in the role. Social activist Jealousy Mawarire claims the new POSB investors are “bogus” and says Mnangagwa’s role in the transaction smacks of corruption. “One guy is a bogus investor in the United States (Prof Kue) who set up Twitter and Facebook accounts in 2020 which are inactive, and he gets a presidential directive written in his name and bank vaults are opened to criminals,” Mawarire said in an interview with HStv “The president has a finance minister, but he instructs the establishment of parallel structures. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. “If the president did not apply his mind before authorising this transaction, it speaks volumes of his cognitive state. It means he is no longer fit for office.” _*Zimbabwe’s ARV supplies may run dry by June after USAID cut funding*_ ZIMBABWE’s antiretroviral (ARV) medication supplies will be depleted by the end of June if it fails to address a funding gap which has been created by USAID’s recent cessation of its aid. The United States Embassy in Zimbabwe paused all U.S. foreign assistance funded by or through the State Department and USAID for review and this has led to temporary suspension of services at New Start Centres and truck stop clinics across the country impacting patients on antiretroviral therapy (ART) and those seeking PrEP refills. This has caused panic as HIV patients face uncertainty. However, speaking in a parliamentary session Wednesday, Minister of Health Douglas Mombeshora assured the national assembly that by the end of June the government would have replenished its stocks. “We sat down and assessed the type of medicines that we need. It is not correct that all medicines were coming through USAID, I think it was 31%. “We have medicines to take us up to the end of June but by June, we will have replenished. “People should not panic, there is enough medication and medication will be available forever,” Mombeshora said. Mombeshora also said the termination of USAID funding has led to job losses for healthcare personnel in HIV treatment clinics, disrupted transport for remote healthcare access, and has forced the ministry to seek additional funding to address these challenges. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. The health ministry will be approaching Parliament for support during the supplementary budget for review. “We are therefore seized with scouting for replacements. The other challenge that we are facing pertains to vehicles and motorbikes which were used by healthcare personnel to access remote clinics. “Motorbikes which were used to transport blood samples were also affected by the executive order. “This has culminated into a situation where our Ministry is in the process of requesting extra funding to cater for such key personnel,” Mombeshora said. Before the funding cut, Zimbabwe used to receive over $200 million annually from the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), and the U.S government has given Zimbabwe over $1.7 billion since 2006 to strengthen health systems and support people living with HIV. _*Beitbridge killer bus not insured*_ The Insurance Council of Zimbabwe (ICZ) is extending assistance to victims and families of the Beitbridge accident that claimed 25 lives, following revelations that the bus operator involved was not insured. Seventeen people perished on the spot last week, while eight others succumbed to their injuries upon admission to Beitbridge District Hospital. The tragic accident occurred when an Urban Connect bus collided with a commercial haulage truck along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Highway on Thursday last week. _*Zimbabwe mobile operators fail to implement data roll-over*_ The Government has criticized mobile network operators for failing to implement data roll-over, a feature that allows consumers to carry over unused data balances beyond their expiration period. Deputy Minister of Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Postal and Courier Services, Dingumuzi Phuti, described the practice as "robbery" and vowed to take corrective action against operators who fail to comply. _*Zimbabwe delays implementation of international financial reporting standards*_ Listed companies in Zimbabwe are now required to submit mandatory sustainability reports for financial years commencing on or after January 1, 2024, according to a joint regulatory statement issued by the Public Accountants and Auditors Board (PAAB), the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE) and the Victoria Falls Stock Exchange (VFEX). However, the implementation of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Sustainability Disclosure Standards, specifically IFRS S1 and IFRS S2, has been deferred. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. The regulatory bodies announced on February 12, 2025, that the requirement for sustainability reporting is in line with Statutory Instrument 134 of 2019 (Securities and Exchange (Zimbabwe Stock Exchange Listings Requirements) Rules, 2019), ZSE Practice Note 16, and VFEX Practice Note 2. The regulations mandate listed entities to prepare and submit sustainability reports that ensure transparency, accountability, and effective communication of sustainability-related information to stakeholders, as outlined in section 399 of Statutory Instrument 134 of 2019. “Listed entities should prepare and submit their sustainability reports based on section 399 of Statutory Instrument 134 of 2019, ZSE Practice Note 16 and VFEX Practice Note 2. “The sustainability reports should ensure transparency, accountability, and the effective communication of sustainability-related information to stakeholders,” the regulators stated. Despite Zimbabwe’s adoption of the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards in November 2022, the PAAB clarified that the implementation of IFRS S1 (General Requirements for Disclosure of Sustainability-related Financial Information) and IFRS S2 (Climate-related Disclosures) is not mandatory at this time. The PAAB is currently developing an implementation roadmap for these standards, with further guidance to be provided in the future. Only those with an exemption from the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation, which receives the licence money, will be spared, including those without a radio receiver. Further, plans are afoot to have a single synchronised disc incorporating radio, Zinara and insurance licences. This was revealed during a tour of ZBC and Zimbabwe Media Commission premises by the Ministry of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services and the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Media. _*High-speed chase in Cape Town involving Zimbabweans ends in fatal shooting, arrests*_ A dramatic police chase through Cape Town’s streets ended in tragedy when one suspect was fatally shot and two others were apprehended in Surrey Estate. According to Captain Ian Bennett, spokesperson for Manenberg police, officers on patrol were alerted by a distressed woman who claimed she had been robbed at gunpoint by three men driving a white VW Polo in the Gugulethu area. Police quickly spotted the vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the driver refused to comply, sparking a high-speed pursuit. The chase ended on Arries Road when the suspect behind the wheel lost control and crashed into a police vehicle. As the trio—who are all foreign nationals—tried to flee on foot, one suspect allegedly turned and aimed a firearm at the officers. In response, police opened fire, fatally wounding him. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. A second suspect, a 22-year-old Zimbabwean national, sustained injuries and is currently under police guard in hospital. The third man, a 27-year-old from Zimbabwe, was arrested at the scene. An inquest has been opened to investigate the circumstances of the incident, which unfolded in the early hours of Wednesday morning. _*From throne to trial: Chigodora’s hour of reckoning*_ CONTROVERSIAL and dethroned headman, Chengetai Chigodora (49), appeared before a Mutare magistrate on Wednesday, facing charges of accusing one of his subjects of wizardry during a community court session. Chigodora is being charged with ‘indicating someone as a witch’ under Section 99 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23. He denied the allegations, and the matter proceeded to trial before Mutare magistrate, Mrs Ivy Musavengana. Ms Sharon Chibvongodze is prosecuting. According to the prosecution, on January 6, 2024, Chigodora presided over a traditional court session where he summoned Mr Tapiwa Christopher Magumbe, following accusations of wizardry levelled against him by his brothers, Jerome, Lionel and Nhaka Magumbe. “During the proceedings, one of Tapiwa’s brothers claimed that he was responsible for their misfortunes, including joblessness and financial ruin. The accusations further escalated, with the brother alleging that Tapiwa had caused family deaths through supernatural means,” said Ms Chibvongodze. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. She said instead of remaining neutral, Chigodora openly took sides, praising the accusers and making alarming remarks. “During the session, Chigodora commended Tapiwa’s brother, saying it would have been better if he had killed him with an axe to end the family’s misery,” she said. The prosecution further alleged that Chigodora threatened to force Tapiwa to undergo a traditional cleansing ceremony against his will. Chigodora allegedly uploaded a video of the court session to a YouTube channel titled, Headman Chigodora, further exposing Tapiwa to public ridicule. The video was presented in court as evidence, though the footage is no longer available online. During cross-examination, Mr Magumbe stood by his testimony, describing how Chigodora’s remarks humiliated him. “During the court session, he even said that if I died, he would testify at my funeral that I was a wizard. He abused his power by siding with those against me instead of remaining impartial,” he said. The case, which has drawn significant public attention, has roots in an earlier legal battle. Following Chigodora’s ruling at the traditional court, Mr Magumbe sought recourse at Mutare Magistrates’ Civil Courts, where magistrate, Ms Purity Gumbo ruled in his favour. The ruling barred Chigodora from coercing Mr Magumbe into any form of ritual or cleansing ceremony. “The respondents are hereby prohibited from forcing the applicant to participate in any ritual or cleansing ceremony before any traditional healers or prophets without his consent,” reads the court order. Chigodora is no stranger to controversy. In September 2024, he was relieved of his acting headman duties, having overstayed by two years in violation of the Traditional Leaders Act. His removal followed concerns over his unorthodox leadership style, with some community members accusing him of abusing his position to settle personal scores. The trial was adjourned to today (Friday) for continuation. Chigodora is out of custody. – Manica Post _*Andy Muridzo Sells Wicknell Chivhayo’s Mercedes-Benz Amid Financial Troubles*_ Afro-fusion musician Andy Muridzo has reportedly sold the Mercedes-Benz C200 he received as a gift from businessman Wicknell Chivhayo, according to his estranged wife, Mai Keketso. Mai Keketso alleged that Muridzo parted with the luxury vehicle due to financial difficulties. “He sold the car because of financial problems,” she claimed. The artist has not publicly responded to the allegation. The car was part of a fleet of high-end vehicles distributed to musicians and other public figures in 2023. While officially presented as personal gifts from Chivhayo, the cars are widely believed to have originated from President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his family, with Chivhayo acting as their frontman. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. Chivhayo, known for his close ties to the Mnangagwa regime, has in the past warned beneficiaries against selling the vehicles, insisting they were intended to elevate their status and facilitate their careers. His public stance on the matter has raised questions about the real purpose behind the car giveaways, with critics suggesting they were part of a broader political influence campaign. Muridzo’s decision to sell the vehicle could put him at odds with Chivhayo, who has previously demanded accountability from artists who misuse his gifts. In some cases, he has even moved to reclaim cars from recipients he felt were undeserving or ungrateful. _*Chimombe, Mpofu trial takes another intricate twist*_ The courtroom drama involving business partners Moses Mpofu and Mike Chimombe took yet another intricate twist yesterday, as the defence successfully mounted an objection to the introduction of two assessors poised to preside over their trial. Justice Pisirayi Kwenda, swayed by the arguments advanced, upheld the objection and excused the assessors, pushing the trial’s resumption to Monday next week. The defence team split into two forces. Advocate Tapson Dzvetero spearheaded proceedings in the High Court, while Professor Lovemore Madhuku simultaneously pursued a bail appeal in the Supreme Court. The High Court session saw Adv Dzvetero object to the presence of the assessors, a challenge that Justice Kwenda upheld, dismissing the assessors from the bench. Herald _*Is it True Passion Java Has Been Deserted by Own Rich Wife, Deported From USA, Used And Dumped By Zanu PF?*_ A story circulated claiming that preacher Passion Java has been deserted by his wife, Lily. Reporters reached out to Java to inquire about this, and he replied, saying: “It’s Tatelicious who started it all by saying I went to Cape Town. When I had finished my meeting, I said, ‘Let me stay,’ and I have a house at the beach. So I was wearing my beachwear. I was five minutes from the house when it was said of me that I had gone mad. But the internet is the internet.” This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. Java was asked about the reported clearing of his wife’s Instagram account of his pictures. He said, “We cleared our Instagram accounts and handed them to the church staff to manage.” He also added that he is now involved in building and managing his church. How big is your church? Java was asked. “I have 38 branches,” he said. Java also took time to insult senior war veteran Blessed Geza, saying he will not be able to fix the country as promised. Which are you in the cosmos of politics in Zimbabwe? he was asked. He replied, “There is a mudhara I saw who was talking too much. “There is only one side of politics in Zimbabwe, the only side of ED Mnangagwa,” he said. When asked how he could support someone who was recently described by his own prophet as a condemned politician humbled to the point of eating grass like cattle, he said, “There is nothing like that. There is no such prophecy,” he said. “The day when I announced, ‘Pamberi naED,’ God had told me he’s the leader of my choice, so for such a person to end up eating grass, it’s impossible,” he said. He added, “It’s impossible; it’s impossible. That man is God’s messenger,” he said. Kabarebe is central to Rwanda’s support for the March 23 Movement (M23), a U.S.- and United Nations (UN)-designated armed group that has rapidly expanded its territorial control in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and is responsible for human rights abuses. OFAC is also sanctioning Lawrence Kanyuka Kingston (Kanyuka), an M23 and Congo River Alliance senior member and spokesperson, alongside two of Kanyuka’s companies registered in the U.K. and France. _*Rwanda says DRC criticism of Arsenal, Bayern and PSG deals threatens regional peace*_ Rwanda on Thursday described recent criticism of its Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Paris St Germain sponsorship deals by the Democratic Republic of Congo's foreign minister as a threat to regional peace and stability. Earlier this month DRC's foreign minister Therese Kayikwamba Wagner urged the three clubs to end their "blood-stained" sponsorship agreements with "Visit Rwanda", questioning the morality of such partnerships while fighting raged in eastern Congo. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. Rwanda-backed M23 rebels have seized a number of key towns and cities there in what is the gravest escalation in more than a decade of a long-running conflict rooted in the spillover into Congo of Rwanda's 1994 genocide and the struggle for control of Congo's vast mineral resources. "The Government of Rwanda rejects recent attempts by the Democratic Republic of Congo to undermine Rwanda’s international partnerships through misinformation and political pressure," Rwanda Development Board, which oversees the deals, said in a statement on Thursday. _*European leaders push back on reckless Trump claims Ukraine started war with Russia*_ A number of European leaders on Feb. 19 reaffirmed their support for President Volodymyr Zelensky after U.S. President Donald Trump accused him of being a "dictator" and espousing false claims about Ukraine. "Ukraine has been defending itself against Russia's merciless war of aggression for almost three years... And it is simply wrong and dangerous to deny President Zelensky's democratic legitimacy," German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on X. In his post on the Truth Social platform, Trump accused the Ukrainian president of refusing to hold elections and warned that "Zelensky better move fast, or he won’t have a country left." The U.S. president also falsely claimed that Washington had provided Ukraine with $350 billion in support and that Zelensky had an approval rating of 4%. The Ukrainian president refuted both claims earlier the same day, saying that Trump is trapped in a "disinformation space." "How do you organize elections with one-fifth of your territory occupied and under daily strikes across the country? Calling the president of such a country dictator requires a great deal of cynicism," Czech President Petr Pavel said. This is an Ignite Media Zimbabwe news production. Kremlin propaganda has pushed the narrative that Zelensky is an illegitimate leader, relying on the premise that his first presidential term was originally meant to end on May 20, 2024. But Trump's claim ignores the fact that Ukraine's constitution prohibits elections during martial law, which has been in effect since Russia's full-scale invasion began in 2022. As a result, Zelensky's term has been extended, which constitutional lawyers argue is permitted under Ukrainian law. *IGNITE SPORT* _*Time up for Nunez at Liverpool*_ Liverpool will likely look to sell Darwin Nunez, 25, this summer, with the Uruguay striker struggling for playing time at Anfield.
