FEB 28—JUST IN: Vatican says that #popefrancis “in the early afternoon today, after a morning spent alternating between respiratory physiotherapy & prayer in the chapel, experienced an isolated bronchospasm crisis, which led to an episode of vomiting with inhalation & a sudden worsening of his respiratory condition. The Holy Father was promptly bronchoscopically aspirated & began non-invasive mechanical ventilation, and responded well in terms of gas exchange. He has remained alert & aware of his surroundings at all times, cooperating with therapeutic measures. His prognosis, therefore, remains reserved.”
