Hemi-capitate arthroplasty
Unstable dorsal proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint fracture-dislocations present a significant challenge, often leading to joint incongruity, instability, stiffness, and persistent pain. This video highlights a promising solution: hemi-capitate arthroplasty.
We present the case of a 19-year-old engineering student who sustained this type of injury three months prior. The video demonstrates the successful application of hemi-capitate arthroplasty to address his unstable dorsal PIP joint fracture-dislocation.
This innovative technique may offer several advantages over traditional hemi-hamate arthroplasty. By utilizing the capitate, we aim to minimize the risk of overstuffing the joint and reduce donor site morbidity.
The search for innovative solutions to these complex injuries is ongoing, and I am excited to witness further advancements in this field.
