The phrase "سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ الْعَظِيْم" is a powerful dhikr (remembrance of Allah) in Islam. Here’s what it means and its significance:
Meaning:
سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ → "Glory be to Allah and all praise is due to Him."
سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ الْعَظِيْم → "Glory be to Allah, the Most Great."
Virtue and Significance:
1. Highly Rewarded:
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:
“Two statements are light on the tongue, heavy on the scale, and beloved to the Most Merciful:
سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ، سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ الْعَظِيْم”
(Sahih al-Bukhari & Sahih Muslim)
2. Forgiveness of Sins:
Another hadith states:
"Whoever says سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ a hundred times a day, his sins will be forgiven, even if they are like the foam of the sea."
(Sahih al-Bukhari & Sahih Muslim)
3. A Form of Gratitude and Praise:
This dhikr acknowledges Allah's perfection and greatness while expressing gratitude and humility before Him.
When to Recite:
After prayers
In the morning and evening
Anytime for spiritual peace and rewards
It’s a simple yet immensely rewarding remembrance that strengthens faith and brings blessings.
