*ANNOUNCEMENT: New Student-Designated Washrooms at FSE, South Campus*
The SRC has expressed concern regarding the deteriorating condition of student washrooms at South Campus lecture halls and theaters, where several facilities have become inaccessible due to dysfunctional equipment and inadequate maintenance. In collaboration with the Dean of the Faculty of Science, the SRC has implemented practical measures to address these issues.
Initially, two student-designated washrooms within the Science Education building—located at the extreme ends of the ground floor along the Chemistry Department corridor—had been locked since the beginning of the semester. Although these facilities have since been reopened, they continue to require enhanced maintenance. Due to the high demand from the large student body at South Campus, additional pressure has been placed on other washrooms, including those at Lecture Theater Seven (with the male facility currently closed for extensive maintenance) and those in the French Block.
*In recent weeks, the SRC engaged with all relevant stakeholders to pursue a lasting solution. As a result, the Dean approved the reallocation of two washrooms previously reserved for staff use. These newly designated facilities are located vertically above the Integrated Science Printing Press—one along the Physics Department corridor, assigned for female students, and the other along the Biology Department corridor, assigned for male students. This initiative brings the total number of student-accessible washrooms in the building to four*.
In conclusion, the SRC extends its sincere gratitude to the Dean of FSE for his fatherly approach in addressing this issue. His proactive engagement with all Heads of Departments in the faculty reaching a collective decision to allocate additional washrooms to students have been instrumental in improving the campus facilities and enhancing student welfare.
*SUMMARY*
*Two additional washrooms have been allocated to students in the FSE building at South Campus, increasing the total to four fully operational facilities. The new additions include a facility along the Physics Department corridor (1st floor), designated for female students, and another along the Biology Department corridor (2nd floor), designated for male students. These enhancements support the two existing washrooms at the extreme ends of the ground floor along the Chemistry Department corridor.*
