Today, we celebrate International Mother Language Day, a day that holds great significance for Tales of Dzimbahwe Publishing House. As a publishing house, we recognize the importance of culture in shaping our identity, and language plays a vital role in preserving and promoting our cultural heritage.
Our children's book series, "The Adventures Of Nyenyedzi," is a testament to this commitment. We've translated the series into 16 languages, with 11 of them being indigenous to Zimbabwe and the SADC region. This effort is driven by our founder and author, Chengeto Mayowe, who is passionate about cultural representation and preservation.
Language is the thread that weaves together our history, culture, and identity. It's essential for children and adults alike to see themselves represented in books and media, not just physically but also linguistically. This representation fosters a sense of belonging, pride, and connection to one's heritage.
Think about it, if your language ceased to exist today and was not documented, would history or anything be depicted accurately, if at all? Or would it all become a distant memory?
