Our town’s water system was originally built to serve 20,000 people, but Chegutu has grown significantly, and our infrastructure has not kept pace. Immediate action is critical. As a stop-gap measure, we are drilling new boreholes and repairing old ones to boost short-term supply, while also installing water kiosks in high-need wards to ensure no household goes without water. However, temporary solutions are not enough. Through the #sourcetotap Initiative, we are tackling the root of the crisis by expanding our source water bank to meet both current and future demand, revamping outdated filtration and pumping systems to serve over 70 000 residents, and ensuring reliable, clean water flows to every tap, school, and clinic. Chegutu’s growth is a sign of progress, and together we must ensure our water systems grow with it, building a future where water scarcity becomes a thing of the past.
