You need milk, not solid food, *EXPOSITION* Growth is inevitable. Every sound person is expected to grow. Just as a baby grows, everyone expects their diet to change from milk to solid food. The author addresses his audience, saying, "For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food." This text suggests that at a time when the recipients of this letter were expected to be mature, they were still acting like infants. After years of being taught the ways of God, they were still behaving like new converts, struggling over basic matters. Friend, what parent would be happy to see their child not growing? Likewise, whatever knowledge you have received in Christ is meant to bring about spiritual growth. You don’t need milk—you need solid food. However, if you continue to behave like a spiritual infant, you will still be given milk. Leave the milk for new converts and crave the solid food of the Word.
