The National Registration Department (JPN) is finalising the rollout of a new MyKad with enhanced security and advanced technology. Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah stated in Dewan Rakyat that the upgraded card will feature polycarbonate material, larger storage, advanced holograms, and laser-engraved text to prevent forgery and identity theft. JPN Director-General Badrul Hisham Alias confirmed that the older MyKad will be phased out to eliminate outdated security risks. Between 2022 and October 2024, JPN’s 2,103 enforcement operations led to 519 arrests for identity fraud. Shamsul added that a market study is being conducted to ensure a cost-effective transition without burdening the government.
