*Shaykh al-Islam Taqī al-Dīn ibn Taymiyyah al-Hanbalī (d. 728 AH):* As for the 15th night of Sha'ban (Shab-e-Baraat), there is indeed virtue associated with it, and the Salaf used to pray on this night. However, congregating in the mosque for this night, with the intention of passing the night there, is an innovation (Bid'ah). (That is, the individual practice of the Salaf was to pray on this night, but there was no collective practice of gathering for worship in congregation for this night.) Allah knows best.
