_#31_
*The _Sunnah_ Method of Giving _Ghusl_ to the Deceased:*
*Required Items:*
*1:* _Ghusl_ board
*2:* Scissors
*3:* Two small sheets
*4:* Soap
*5:* Two towels
*6:* Musk and camphor
*7:* Gloves or plastic bags
*8:* Two tubs of water
*9:* Two cans for pouring water
*10:* Berry leaves (Leaves of the Jujube tree)
*11:* Cotton
*12:* Tissue paper or clay rocks
*13:* _Kafan_ (shroud)
*14:* A bed
The steps for performing _ghusl_ on the deceased according to _Sunnah_ are written below in order:
*1:* The board on which the deceased will be bathed should be fumigated with incense three, five, or seven times. Then, place the deceased on it in such a way that their right side faces the _Qiblah_.
*2:* Tear off the clothes of the body of the deceased, such as a _sherwani_, vest etc. and put on a cloth and take off the lower garments underneath that cloth from the inside. The cloth should cover the deceased from the navel to the knees and should be thick enough that the body remains hidden even when wet.
*3:* It is not permissible to look at or touch the area from the navel to the thighs. When washing or cleaning these parts, gloves should be worn, or a cloth should be wrapped around the hand, because it is not permissible to touch the place where it is not permissible to touch in life, even after death, it is not permissible to touch without gloves. Before starting the bath, wear gloves on your left hand and do _Istinjā_ with three or five loose pieces of clay rock or tissue paper and then rinse with water.
*4:* Perform _wuḍū_ for the deceased. Wash the hands up to the wrists. Do not rinse the mouth or insert water into the nose. Instead, use a damp cotton ball or cloth to wipe the lips, teeth, and gums and then discard it. Similarly, clean the nostrils with a damp cotton ball.
*Note:* If the deceased passed away in a state requiring _ghusl_ (e.g., due to _janābah_, menstruation, or postnatal bleeding), inserting water into the mouth and nose is still not necessary. However, wiping these areas with a damp cloth is recommended but not necessary.
Place cotton in the mouth, nose, and ears to prevent water from entering during the _wuḍū_ and _ghusl_. Then, wash the face, hands up to the elbows, wipe the head, and wash both feet three times each.
*5:* After completing the _wuḍū_, wash the head and, in the case of men, also the beard using _Gul Khiro_, _Khatami_, Basin or soap.
*6:* Lay the deceased on their left side and pour lukewarm water boiled with berry leaves over the right side from head to toe three times, ensuring the water reaches the left side as well.
*7:* Similarly, turn the deceased onto their right side and pour water from head to toe three times, ensuring it reaches the right side properly.
*8:* Gently lift the deceased to a slightly seated position and slightly rub and press their stomach from top to bottom. If any impurity (urine or stool etc) is released, it's should be wiped and washed; there is no need to repeat the _wuḍū_ or _ghusl_, because no deficiency is caused in the _wuḍū_ or _ghusl_ of the deceased due to these impurities releasing.
*9:* Turn the deceased onto their left side again and pour water mixed with camphor over the right side three times. Then, turn them onto their right side and pour the same water over the left side three times. Then put on another glove and dry the whole body with a cloth and cover it with another dry cloth.
*10:* Prepare the shroud by spreading it on the bed in such a way which will be explained further under the _Sunnah_ method of putting the _Kafan_ onto the body of the deceased. Gently move the deceased from the _ghusl_ board onto the _kafan_ and remove the cotton from the mouth, nose, and ears.
(*Note:* _The issues are according to the Ḥanafī Fiqh._)
