Russian conscript died in hospital—family blames military negligence
On December 29, 2024, 20-year-old conscript Artur Magtagyan died at a military hospital in Rostov-on-Don. His brother, Karlen, told ASTRA he believes poor medical care and negligence caused his death. The family demands an investigation.
Karlen said Artur developed a 38.9°C fever on December 12. The next day, he visited the medical unit at military base 91706 in the Rostov region. He received a saline IV and was sent to the infirmary but got no further treatment despite worsening.
On December 16, Artur had severe chest and stomach pain, but he was only taken to a hospital in Novocherkassk on December 20, where doctors performed emergency surgery, drained 1.5 liters of pus, and diagnosed bilateral pneumonia. By then, his condition was critical. That same day, he was moved to the Rostov-on-Don military hospital and put on a ventilator. He died on December 29.
