Breaking: GDF Soldiers Injured in Attack by Suspected Venezuelan Gang Several Guyana Defence Force (GDF) soldiers were injured after being ambushed by suspected Sindicatos gang members near Black Water Mouth in the Cuyuni River. The attack occurred around 3:45 PM on February 17, 2025, as a GDF boat, carrying supplies from Eteringbang to Makapa, was intercepted by two wooden boats with heavily armed, masked men. A gunfight ensued, forcing the attackers to retreat. However, six GDF members sustained gunshot wounds, including Second Lieutenant Ansel Murray, who was shot in the head, and Cpl Andrew Fraser, who was hit in the abdomen and shoulder. Despite their injuries, all personnel remain conscious and stable, receiving treatment at the Makapa GDF Observation Post. Chief of Staff, Brigadier Omar Khan, is expected to issue a statement soon. Investigations are ongoing.
