*NECO Bans 14 Exam Centres, Sanctions Seven Supervisors Over Malpractice* The National Examinations Council (NECO) has blacklisted 14 examination centres and sanctioned seven supervisors for their involvement in various forms of examination malpractice during the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External. The affected centres were located in two South-West states, with 10 centres in Ogun State and four in Oyo State. Supervisors and Centres Blacklisted During a media briefing at NECO’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State, on Friday, NECO Registrar, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, disclosed that the Federal Ministry of Education has directed the council to submit the names of the blacklisted centres and supervisors to other examination bodies, including JAMB and WAEC, for further sanctions. 6,169 candidates were caught in malpractice, a 27.7% decrease from 8,518 cases in 2023. Seven supervisors from Oyo (2), Ogun (2), Lagos (1), Cross River (1), and Ebonyi (1) were blacklisted for poor supervision, lateness, and aiding malpractice. 14 exam centres were blacklisted for whole-centre malpractice across nine subjects. Prof. Wushishi also provided an update on the 2024 SSCE External results, highlighting: 86,067 candidates registered, with 84,799 sitting for the exam. 62,929 candidates (75.62%) earned credit and above in English Language. 77,988 candidates (93.94%) obtained credit and above in Mathematics. 57,114 candidates (67.35%) secured five credits, including English and Mathematics. 70,711 candidates (83.39%) achieved five credits and above, regardless of English and Mathematics.
