*NECO Bans 14 Exam Centres, Sanctions Seven Supervisors Over Malpractice* The National Examinations Council (NECO) has blacklisted 14 examination centres and sanctioned seven supervisors for their involvement in various forms of examination malpractice during the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External. The affected centres were located in two South-West states, with 10 centres in Ogun State and four in Oyo State. Supervisors and Centres Blacklisted During a media briefing at NECO’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State, on Friday, NECO Registrar, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, disclosed that the Federal Ministry of Education has directed the council to submit the names of the blacklisted centres and supervisors to other examination bodies, including JAMB and WAEC, for further sanctions. 6,169 candidates were caught in malpractice, a 27.7% decrease from 8,518 cases in 2023. Seven supervisors from Oyo (2), Ogun (2), Lagos (1), Cross River (1), and Ebonyi (1) were blacklisted for poor supervision, lateness, and aiding malpractice. 14 exam centres were blacklisted for whole-centre malpractice across nine subjects. Prof. Wushishi also provided an update on the 2024 SSCE External results, highlighting: 86,067 candidates registered, with 84,799 sitting for the exam. 62,929 candidates (75.62%) earned credit and above in English Language. 77,988 candidates (93.94%) obtained credit and above in Mathematics. 57,114 candidates (67.35%) secured five credits, including English and Mathematics. 70,711 candidates (83.39%) achieved five credits and above, regardless of English and Mathematics. *2025 UTME: JAMB Lists Remaining States for Optional Mock Exam, Warns Against Hasty Town Selection* The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the list of remaining states with available slots for the optional mock examination for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). In a statement issued by JAMB’s spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, on Sunday in Abuja, the board identified Gombe, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba, and Yobe as the states where candidates can still select mock exam centers. Interested candidates are advised to choose their examination towns accordingly. JAMB also cautioned candidates against making rushed or impractical choices when selecting their exam towns. “The Board has noticed an unusual trend in candidates' selection of examination towns for the optional mock exam. This notice serves as a reminder to avoid hastily selecting towns, only to later complain about being assigned to locations far from their residences or states,” the statement read. The optional mock examination is scheduled for Friday, March 7, 2025, providing candidates with a simulated Computer-Based Test (CBT) experience. The main UTME will follow from April 18 to 28, 2025. Dr. Benjamin emphasized that while candidates are free to choose their preferred examination towns, they must consider the logistical implications. “The Board assigns mock examination slots based on available space. Once a town reaches capacity, it is removed from the selection options. Candidates should carefully consider travel logistics to ensure a smooth exam day experience,” he added. JAMB reiterated that the mock exam is designed to familiarize candidates with the CBT format while also allowing the Board to test its facilities. Candidates are therefore encouraged to make informed choices to avoid unnecessary difficulties. Stay Up-To-Date Receive News Updates On Whatsapp @ https://wa.link/5nyhb5

In a statement on Sunday night, the Head of National Office, WAEC Nigeria, Dr. Amos Dangut, revealed that 65,023 candidates sat for the exam. Of these, 34,878 candidates (53.64%) obtained credits or higher in at least five core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. A gender breakdown of the results showed that 17,992 female candidates (51.58%) outperformed their male counterparts, who accounted for 16,886 candidates (48.41%) with similar grades. The exam was conducted using both the traditional Paper and Pen method and a computer-based hybrid format. WAEC reported that 62,364 candidates (95.90%) had their results fully processed, while 2,669 (4.1%) experienced processing delays due to errors on their part. Additionally, 2,577 candidates (3.98%) had their results withheld over alleged examination malpractice, pending investigations. Special needs candidates, including 25 visually impaired, 13 hearing impaired, and 15 albinos, also had their results fully processed and released. Candidates can check their results on www.waecdirect.org and request hard copies of their certificates via the WAEC Certificate Request Portal (e-Certman) at https://certrequest.waec.ng. WAEC commended the 3,327 examiners who participated in marking scripts from January 15 to February 4, 2025, at six designated centers across the country. The council also appreciated the support of security agencies and other officials in ensuring a smooth examination process. Stay Up-To-Date Receive News Updates On Whatsapp @ https://wa.link/5nyhb5

*NANS Threatens Disruption of NELFUND Board Meeting Over Student Representation* The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued a stern warning to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), vowing to halt its scheduled board meeting on Monday over the alleged exclusion of student representatives. In a letter addressed to NELFUND’s Managing Director, Akintunde Sawyerr, and copied to its Chairman, Jim Ovia, NANS President, Comrade Lucky Emonefe, declared that no meeting would proceed without student representation. Titled "Final Demand for Student Representation in the Scheduled NELFUND Board Meeting – No Student, No Meeting!", the letter expressed deep frustration over what NANS described as a blatant sidelining of students in critical decisions affecting their future. “As the apex student body representing over 50 million Nigerian students, we cannot stand by while decisions on the administration and disbursement of student loans are made without our input,” the statement read. NANS emphasized that student representation is not a request but a demand, warning that failure to include a student delegate in the board meeting would lead to a total shutdown of the venue. “This is not an appeal; it is a final warning. Nigerian students have been patient for too long. We will not be mere spectators in matters that shape our education and future. No student, no meeting!” the letter concluded. NANS has now called for an immediate response from NELFUND, insisting that student inclusion in the decision-making process is non-negotiable.
