*WAEC Releases 2024 Nov/Dec Exam Results, Records 53.64% Pass Rate*
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the release of the 2024 November/December West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for private candidates (second series).
In a statement on Sunday night, the Head of National Office, WAEC Nigeria, Dr. Amos Dangut, revealed that 65,023 candidates sat for the exam. Of these, 34,878 candidates (53.64%) obtained credits or higher in at least five core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. This marks a 9.35% increase in performance compared to the 2023 and 2022 editions, which recorded 44.29% and 42.16%, respectively.
A gender breakdown of the results showed that 17,992 female candidates (51.58%) outperformed their male counterparts, who accounted for 16,886 candidates (48.41%) with similar grades.
The exam was conducted using both the traditional Paper and Pen method and a computer-based hybrid format. WAEC reported that 62,364 candidates (95.90%) had their results fully processed, while 2,669 (4.1%) experienced processing delays due to errors on their part. Additionally, 2,577 candidates (3.98%) had their results withheld over alleged examination malpractice, pending investigations.
Special needs candidates, including 25 visually impaired, 13 hearing impaired, and 15 albinos, also had their results fully processed and released.
Candidates can check their results on www.waecdirect.org and request hard copies of their certificates via the WAEC Certificate Request Portal (e-Certman) at https://certrequest.waec.ng.
WAEC commended the 3,327 examiners who participated in marking scripts from January 15 to February 4, 2025, at six designated centers across the country. The council also appreciated the support of security agencies and other officials in ensuring a smooth examination process.
