Pushing the Boundaries of Our Deen: A Call to Return to the Qur’an and Sunnah In recent times, many Muslims have unknowingly adopted non-Islamic practices, especially in marriage, celebrations, and social interactions. These trends dilute our Islamic identity and must be assessed in light of the Qur’an and Sunnah. Key Concerns & Islamic Guidance 🔹 Publicizing Proposals & Acceptances Personal matters like proposals should remain private. Islam encourages announcing Nikah, not proposals. (Muslim 2187 – The evil eye is real.) 🔹 Imitating Non-Muslim Traditions Practices like "Team Bride," wedding vows, and extravagant decorations have no Islamic basis. The Prophet ﷺ said, “Whoever imitates a people is one of them.” (Abu Dawud 4031) 🔹 Excessive Publicity of Births & Celebrations Oversharing on social media invites envy and the evil eye. The Salaf practiced privacy and modesty. 🔹 Public Displays of Affection & Anniversaries Islam encourages modesty in relationships. Exposing personal matters can lead to harm and fitnah. 🔹 Music at Weddings Musical instruments are generally prohibited in Islam. Instead, choose permissible nasheeds without instruments. (Bukhari 5590 – Musical instruments are unlawful.) 🔹 Extravagance in Dress & Weddings Islam values simplicity. Allah warns: “Indeed, the wasteful are brothers of the devils.” (Qur’an 17:27) 🔹 Social Media & Online Behavior Posting personal photos can lead to modesty loss and misuse. The Prophet ﷺ said, “Modesty is a branch of faith.” (Bukhari 9) Practical Reminders ✅ Follow the Qur’an & Sunnah in all matters. ✅ Maintain a distinct Islamic identity. ✅ Prioritize modesty & privacy. ✅ Be cautious of the evil eye. ✅ Seek Islamic knowledge to avoid innovations. Conclusion To protect our Deen, we must return to Islamic principles and avoid blindly following cultural influences. By doing so, we preserve our identity and earn Allah’s pleasure. May Allah guide us all to the straight path. آمــــــــــين. 📖 “And keep reminding, because reminding benefits the believers.” (Qur’an 51:55)
