Baat Pakki is Not an Islamic Practice
Baat Pakki is a cultural tradition found in South Asian communities, particularly in India and Pakistan. It is not part of Islam, nor is it from the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Rather, it originates from Hindu customs, where families formally agree to a marriage before the actual wedding takes place.
In Islam, there is no concept of Baat Pakki—only the Nikah (Islamic marriage contract) makes a couple lawful for each other. An engagement or promise of marriage (Khitbah) is merely a proposal and an acceptance, but it does not carry any Islamic significance beyond that.
Islamic Perspective:
✅ Engagement is allowed but holds no religious binding.
✅ The couple is still non-mahram until Nikah is conducted.
✅ Islam does not encourage unnecessary customs that complicate marriage.
🚫 Baat Pakki is not Sunnah. It is a cultural addition with no basis in Islam. Muslims should follow the simplicity and purity of marriage as taught by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
May Allah guide us to follow the teachings of Islam and keep our marriages free from unnecessary traditions. Ameen.
