Speaking at the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Youth Hon Mupamhanga said, "preparations were at an advanced stage and the event will be hosted at ZIEC, the Youth day will run under the theme “Empower Youth, Secure the Future”, our mission here is for the National Youth day which used to be called 21st February movement a day we used to celebrate in line with the former President RG Mugabe".
"What is important about National Youth day from its origin is that, this is the 39th year of this celebration since it began it was about young people who are today War Veterans who sacrificed for our Country, so today we also celebrate young people. "We need young people to drive the fight of economic emancipation of our people."
Hon Mupamhanga said, "this is an opportunity here in Bulawayo for young and old people to unite. Unity starts here where we are. What people must know is that, our celebrations are not a platform for disunity or disintegration for our Party."
"We must stand together and make sure our party is stronger than ever and we must rally behind our President and leaders. Our aim as a ministry is to bring everybody who is involved in youth programs in one place."
He elucidated his mission as a Deputy Minister which is to drive the empowerment agenda and that the national event requires a lot of procurement. He also said he has been working well with the Chairman for Bulawayo youth league Cde Freedom Murechu who asked him to work with the people of Bulawayo and give them tenders than giving people who are not from Bulawayo.
"So we came here to make the technocratic plan and our Permanent Secretaries are implementing the government policy of a 20% youth quota which was announced by the President through the Parliament. We want to achieve a 20% youth quota here in Bulawayo," he said.
