One Nation that fascinates me and is The inspiration of one of my favorite Tom and Jerry cartoons is the Austrian Empire. ("Johann Mouse" is the name of the cartoon; The music and artwork is stunning) Much like the modern-day United States, Austria was culturally diverse and once a major superpower that dominated much of Europe. Prior to the Great War in 1914, there were many ideas on how The Empire could have survived. I would argue that it started to decline in 1848 and was completely dead 70 years later. I want to write about a city that would be a microcosm inspired by he talked about ideas of the would be Crown Prince, Franz Ferdinand and who would be the last Emperor, Karl I, who try to commendably stop the fighting but everyone at the time didn't listen. Anyways, I'm convinced that not everyone in Austria wanted independence whether rich or poor. That's why I want to create a city based on this particular group of people that would have existed at this time.
