Bleeding after sex isn’t always due to an infection. Several factors could be responsible, including:
1. Lack of Lubrication – If you’re not well lubricated before or during sex, friction can cause small tears, leading to bleeding.
2. Low Estrogen Levels – Hormonal changes, especially during menopause, postpartum, or while on birth control, can cause vaginal dryness and thinning, making bleeding more likely.
3. Cervical Polyps – Benign growths on the cervix can bleed when irritated during intercourse.
4. Endometriosis & Fibroids – In some cases, these conditions can cause bleeding between periods and after sex.
5. Pregnancy – The cervix becomes more sensitive during pregnancy, leading to light bleeding after sexual activity.
6. Blood Clotting Disorders – Certain medications or conditions affecting blood clotting can make bleeding more likely.
7. Cancer or Precancerous Changes – Though less common, cervical, vaginal, or uterine cancer can sometimes cause postcoital bleeding.
8. Rough Sex – If your partner is a "rough rider," the friction and intensity may lead to bleeding.
So, if you notice bleeding after sex, don’t panic—it’s not always an infection. Several factors could be at play. Stay informed and take care of your body!
