7. AVOID SMOKING AND REDUCE ALCOHOL Smoking is the number 1 preventable cause of heart disease. It narrows blood vessels, increases blood pressure and raises the risk of heart attacks. Same with alcohol, excessive intake increases blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Quit smoking completely and reduce intake of alcohol.
