*Understanding Cholesterol: The Good, the Bad, and the Triglycerides 🤔💊*
Cholesterol, a waxy substance that builds up in the arteries, isn't entirely harmful. There are two main types: high-density lipoprotein (HDL) or "good" cholesterol, which carries cholesterol to the liver for removal, and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or "bad" cholesterol, which takes cholesterol directly to the arteries, potentially causing atherosclerosis, heart attacks, and strokes. Triglycerides, the third component, are unused calories stored as fat in the blood. Maintaining healthy levels is crucial, with ideal counts being: LDL (100 or less), HDL (40 or greater, or 50 for females), triglycerides (150 or less), and total cholesterol (200 or less). A balanced diet, regular exercise, and medication (if necessary) can help manage cholesterol levels. 💪🏼🥗🏋️♀️
