Happy Valentine’s Day dearly beloved. As we commemorate the selflessness and sacrifice of St. Valentine we mustn’t forget what he’s to be remembered for or what he vehemently stood for which led to his martyrdom.
We must refrain from celebrating like the foolish do —Involving and indulging in all forms of corruption and impure conduct such as is a taboo to the very essence of love which we celebrate. For this cause, Wisdom is prompting you today to put on charity. put it on like a regalia, let it be your uniform that you wear everywhere you go.
What then is Charity? Many other New Testament translations has that word as Love. And by this, love is referred to as the bond of perfectness. 1Cor. 13; deals extensively with this same love (charity). It iterates the selfless and wholistic nature of love by establishing that it is kind, it doesn’t envy, thinks no evil, not self seeking, not puffed up, does not rejoice in iniquity, et ceteral.
This is the kind of love we must celebrate and show forth even as we mark the wholesome doggedness of the matyre Valentine, whose unwavering loyalty to promoting God’s love in the institution of marriage and its essence in advancing God’s overall purpose for man to replenish the earth. Any act of love or means of celebrating Valentine that is void of the wholesome pure love described above is not wise.
