Advanced Jyotiṣa - Dreshkana. Types Of Dreshkana :- Dreshkana or Drekkana is the 3rd division of a rāśi. After navāmśa, drekkana gets a lot of importance in understanding the results from a horoscope. Drekkana is a larger picture of 3rd bhāva is a myth developed by some recent scholars who created their own fantasies. There are various methods of calculating the Drekkana out of which three major methods are explained - 1. Lomaśa Samhitā & Brihat Jātaka : Drekkana is mapped to 1st, 5th and 9th from the rāśi. Sri Varāhamihira uses the Drekkana for the matters concerning the 8th bhāva. The calculations are based on trikoṇa indicating past birth and the next birth are understood using Drekkana. Sri Varāhamihira and Sri Kalyanvarma (Sārāvali is actually like a commentary to Brihat Jātaka) provide many clues on this Drekkana. 2. Krishneeyam Dreshkana : A rāśi has to be divided into 3 equal parts and each part corresponds to the 3 signs in trikoṇa starting from the 1st rāśi of the same element. Krishneeyam Dreshkana is used in Prashna. This Drekkana calculation originally given in Krishneeyam is renamed by a fake Parampara scholar for their ulterior motives. 3. Parivrittitraya : The calculation of this Drekkana is cyclical. It is also known as Varanasi Drekkana and is explained by Pt Ramayatna Ojha Ji. Uses Of Dreshkana :- Lomaśa Samhitā : For understanding about the co-borns. Yavanacharya : For the results of deeds. Personal Opinion : After studying the standard texts of jyotiṣa, I personally feel that dreshkana should be used like navāmśa for all purposes like understanding the strength, assessing the quality of result, etc.
