*"Worship according to God's instructions"*
Yesterday, I had a conversation with some friends about the importance of following God’s commands. Coincidentally, I had come across a verse that got me thinking: “But Nadab and Abihu died in the Lord’s presence in the wilderness of Sinai when they burned before the Lord the wrong kind of fire, different from what He had commanded” (Numbers 3:4, NLT). The story of Nadab and Abihu reminds us of the significance of following God’s instructions with reverence and care. Although they may have acted with zeal or good intentions, they disregarded God’s specific commands for worship. Our worship and actions must be rooted in God’s truth rather than in our own preferences or assumptions. Jesus said, “But the time is coming—indeed, it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship Him that way” (John 4:23, NLT). Worshipping in truth means aligning our hearts and actions with God’s will, as He desires our obedience.
While God calls us to obedience, He also offers grace through Jesus Christ when we stumble. Jesus reminds us, “If you love me, obey my commandments” (John 14:15, NLT). This obedience is not about rigid rule-following but about love and trust. Even when we make mistakes, His grace is sufficient to restore us. However, Paul warns us not to take grace for granted: “Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of His wonderful grace? Of course not!” (Romans 6:1-2, NLT). Grace empowers us to live in obedience, as God’s commands are meant to guide and protect us. By trusting Him, we can lead lives that honor Him, reflecting true worship and faithfulness in everything we do. Let's just follow instructions.
