Makana Local Municipality invited Community Work Programme workers and Ward Committee members to a meeting at the Extension 9 Community Hall from the following wards: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 11, today 26 February 2025.
This follows a meeting on Wednesday, 19 February in which Makana Local Municipality Executive Mayor and the Office of the Speaker held a important meeting with participants of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), and Community Works Programme (CWP) from across Makana Local Municipality.
The purpose of the meeting was to reinforce the reporting lines of CWP workers. In that meeting the Executive Mayor of Makana Municipality Cllr Yandiswa Vara assured all workers that quarterly meetings would be held to address the state of the municipality, including service delivery challenges, as well as to outline ongoing and upcoming projects.
The Executive Mayor also highlighted the need for a plan to upskill the youth that's participating in these programmes. "Many have qualifications but struggle to find employment, and it is crucial to equip them with practical skills in their fields of study to enhance their employability."
The meeting marked the beginning of a stronger collaboration between the municipality and the CWP. These meetings are part of the municipality's programme to give direction to these government funded employment initiatives. More meetings will be held going forward.
