Officers from Richmond SNt working with the Volunteer Police Cadets carried out a series of test purchase operations during half term in relation to the sale of alcohol and knives to juveniles. Cadets attend various venues in normal clothing to establish whether correct procedures are being followed, age verification is carried out or sales allowed without checks. 8 retail venues were attended in relation to the sale of alcohol, 7 correctly checked for ID and refused sales, 1 sold alcohol. The retailer was issued a penalty notice, and will be issued a warning letter by licensing officers when they visit and review the licence requirements with the premises. 8 venues were visited to test the sale of knives, with one retailer allowing the sale of a Stanley knife. Officers then spoke with the retailer, and passed the matter over to trading standards officers. These operations will continue to ensure retailers and licensed premises are adhering to legislation.
