*🪂👱🏻‍♀️👱🏻‍♀️Youth* – _15 - 18years_ *⛳GraceLink Sabbath School Lesson 7, 1st Quarter* *🧮Sabbath 7 February 15 2025* *💠One Of A Kind* *⛲🗃️Key text:* "Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.” (Matthew 11:11) *🪄Commentary:* Matthew 3:1-17; Luke 1:5-23. The Desire of Ages (or Humble Hero), chapters 10; 11. *🕯️🔦flashlight* “ ‘And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his showing unto Israel.’ Before the birth of John, the angel had said, ‘He shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost.’ God had called the son of Zacharias to a great work, the greatest ever committed to men” (The Desire of Ages, p. 100). *⁉️🤦‍♂️What do you think?* What does baptism symbolize? Now let’s take a look at what the Bible says about baptism. Match the statements with the corresponding Bible references: Christ’s death and resurrection __________________ Being dead to sin ___________________________ Being alive to God _________________________ Consecration to Christ’s service ______________ Covenant relationship with God ______________ Entrance into Christ’s spiritual kingdom _______ *Romans 6:11; Galatians 3:27-29; Mark 10:38; Colossians 2:12; Matthew 3:11; John 3:3, 5.* *⁉️🧏‍♀️did you know?* Now John [the Baptist] also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there. And they came and were baptized’ (John 3:23). “Why did John the Baptist choose this particular place for his work of baptizing the people? The Bible tells us that it was ‘because there was much water there.’ But there’d be no reason to require a place where there was ‘much water’ if a mere sprinkling or pouring were the method used. Multiple Bible references to baptism throughout the New Testament show plainly that immersion was the one method used in the days of Christ and His apostolic church. Considering this matter from the point of view of language, the very word ‘baptism’ is from the Greek word baptisma, derived from the Greek verb baptizo meaning ‘to dip’ or ‘to immerse’ ” (Mark Finley, What the Bible Says About, p. 315). *🪁⛳INTO THE STORY* “In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!’ For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying: ‘The voice of one crying in the wilderness: “Prepare the way of the Lord; make His paths straight.”’ “Now John himself was clothed in camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey. Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins. “But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, ‘Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not think to say to yourselves, “We have Abraham as our father.” For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He willy thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.’ “Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. And John tried to prevent Him, saying, ‘I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?’ “But Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.’ Then he allowed Him. “When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, ‘This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.’ ” (Matthew 3) *📤OUT OF THE STORY* 🚥What is the central message that John the Baptist is communicating? 🚥What is significant about baptism? In today’s Flashlight quotation Ellen White notes that John the Baptist grew up far away from the city—actually, in the desert. White, The Desire of Ages, p. 74).
