“Annihilation (fanā) is the essence of the ultimate Hajj, and annihilation is also the essence of perfect sacrifice. — The ego is annihilated in both, but because sacrifice is purely against reason and solely a pain for the ego, although it is a form of annihilation, it does not equal the Hajj.
