While the TDP and its ministers are creating a media frenzy over a journalist’s remarks—comments that YSRCP has already distanced itself from—the same leaders are criminally silent about two horrifying crimes from Anantapur that demand national outrage. Lavu Krishna Devarayalu, instead of writing letters to the NHRC over a TV debate, should be demanding justice for Tanmayi, the Inter student brutally killed with a beer bottle, and for the Dalit minor gang-raped by 14 TDP-linked men in Sri Sathya Sai district. How can statements, however objectionable, take precedence over real, barbaric violence against young girls? What’s more important—TV debates or safeguarding our children? The YSRCP strongly condemns these heinous crimes and the ruling coalition’s apathy.
