*JAMAICA MANDATES SCHOOLS ACROSS THE ISLAND TO CELEBRATE AFRICA DAY* The African Union can do more to push for a Continent wide Holiday on Africa Day. Big ups to Jamaica 🇯🇲 for taking a massive step in the right direction by pushing for an all-island celebration of Africa Day in schools across the country. If Jamaica can make such strides to celebrate Africa Day in this fashion, why can't the African Union push to establish a continent-wide mandatory holiday on May 25th each year? This holiday should not only commemorate the founding of the OAU, but also celebrate African identity and culture as a whole. There couldn’t be a better time than now to issue a decree to all African states and to Africans in the sixth region of the African Union (the Diaspora), encouraging them to unite in celebrating this day. The benefits of a global holiday goes beyond just the observance itself. It would bring significant socioeconomic and cultural benefits that will only continue to grow as Africans and people of African descent worldwide come together to honor their roots and heritage. Africa Day should be a time to tell our stories, celebrate in traditional African style and Fashion, and yes, indulge in some delicious Jollof (especially for those in West Africa who truly love it).
