India has experienced a widening power deficit from 0.69% in FY20 to approximately 5% in FY24, despite significant growth in electricity generation and recent additions of renewable energy. The UJALA (Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All) scheme, launched a decade ago, has successfully reduced LED bulb prices from ₹500 to ₹70, making them widely accessible for household use.
