Good evening to you, how's the new week going on your end? Mine started well and I hope yours did too. You see, in this tech thing, one can never know it all. This is why it is important that we keep our ears close to the ground to stay updated. If not we'll be at a disadvantage because we'll be forced to operate with outdated information.
Let's talk about Android Go. Android Go showed up around 2017/18. If I remember correctly, it showed up around the same times as the Android one program. Android Go was meant for low end smartphones that ran on low end processors.
These processors were weak and struggled to run the full version of Android. When I mean weak, I meant really weak. For those who remember menaces such as MT6580, Unisoc 7731E etc. yes, that weak.
So the common knowledge was thus, Android Go was a 32-bit software platform that was meant for low end smartphones. It only ran the 32-bit versions of apps.
This was valid knowledge for a long time. It stayed true even up until 2023 when eFootball mobile was released and many low end smartphones with Android Go were excluded from playing.
However more recently, I received several reports that phones with Android Go were now running eFootball. This challenged everything I knew about Android Go and I initially resisted this information as false.
However, I put my emotions aside and let common sense take over.
Well Android Go has been revamped. This change apparently came into effect in 2024. As it currently stands, Android Go can now run 64-bit app versions.
Inorder to facilitate this process, the recommended specs for Android Go has been increased from 2GB RAM to 3GB RAM.
The era of 2GB RAM phones is officially over
I suppose this is why Xiaomi went with Android 14 Go on the Redmi A5 4G.
Please note that just because the platform supports 64-bit apps and games doesn't mean that they'll run flawlessly.
You're still going to be restricted by the performance of your CPU, RAM and storage.
Remember that Android Go was designed for low end devices with weak processors. As a result, it's performance is going to be somewhat slow when dealing with heavy apps.
This is especially true for entry level processors like the Unisoc T603, T7100, Helio G50 and co. Budget processors like the Helio G80, G81, G85, G88, Unisoc T7200 (T606), T7250 (T615) and co would perform slightly better.
So lemme stop here. Have a good evening.
