Answer from dr Shrouq ElTanany If your child did not have this reaction to the vaccine, it does not mean that they have not responded to it. There's no need to vaccinate with BCG a second time. Since it is clinically impossible to distinguish between failed vaccination and failure to develop scar in spite of immune response, the better clinical option is to give BCG a second time. Tuberculin skin test should be carried out. If negative : give a second BCG vaccination. This revaccination is given in the RIGHT arm. It’s not necessary to inspect this scar. A general principle if we are uncertain whether a vaccine dose was given or there is no documentation, the dose in question should be given. BCG vaccination will almost invariably result in tuberculin conversion with a positive tuberculin skin test developing 4–8 weeks after vaccination If negative, give BCG ( intradermal) If positive, he is immune. ! In most cases it won't cause any harm as such, but you need to keep a close eye on any swelling you see around the vaccination site. unpleasant side effects may occur Such as regional Lymphadenitis or large abscess at the injection site.
